Genie, I was so impressed by your info, that I searched for more ditails. This is what I found:
"St. Denis, the first bishop of Paris, according to legend, was executed on the Île de la Cité by the city authorities, fearing the advance of Christianity. After torturing him, the penalty was beheaded died, but when his head touched the ground, San Dionisio did not fall with it, but picked it up and walked six kilometers through Montmartre along what is now known as Street of Martyrs, until he found a godly woman who handed it to bury, being that exact spot where the church of Saint Denis rose.

I like very much the light, emphasizing the volumes without leaving harsh shadows. Thanks a lot, bon dimanche.

I would think that would slow down the number of martyrdoms. Yikes! :-)

Poor St Denis is my absolutely favourite part of Notre Dame- I photograph him every time I visit- I photographed him last weekend....

A peculiar story, and a peculiar carving, but I can see the appeal to photographing him.

Excuse me, but I am a bit freaked out at the idea of a guy marching around Paris carrying his head.
