Palais Royal - des ombres

Palais Royal

The lamps at Palais Royal are
distinctive and recognizable.

The shadow almost resembles
a contact print on the promenade wall.

Christian Bassoul

Christian Bassoul and his group of fellow musicians,
singers, and dancers pass out the words (les paroles) to the old
French songs and invite you to sing and dance along
with them.  It has been a tradition on almost every Paris trip
to gather in the street at the base of rue Mouffetard on Sunday morning.

Come, sing, dance, laugh,
and transport yourself back
in time 100 years.

(Oh, and buy the CD)

With the photo taken through an impressive gate,
I wondered what it would be like
to call this place home.

Église Saint-Antoine des Quinze-Vingts

Église Saint-Antoine des Quinze-Vingts

If you enter a church in Paris and do not immediately see
the organ, look above the main door.

This is a beautiful Cavaillé-Coll organ
and you can click here to hear the music of this organ
as played by reknown organist, Eric Lebrun.

Le Tour de France?

Le Tour de France?

Well, perhaps this young boy is not quite ready
for the famed race, but he handled his bicycle well on
the park path.

Tomorrow the race will finish on the Champs Élysées
and I will be watching from home.

Réflexions de nuit à Paris

Louvre courtyard at night

Such diverse architecture...
from the graceful arches to the glass angles,
all reflected in the shallow fountains!

Place de la Contrescarpe

Place de la Contrescarpe

Bicycles, fountain, café terrace, shade trees,
and sometimes on Sundays a white haired
piano player.

I wonder how he gets that piano up the hill?

La Fontaine Medicis

Medici Fountain

A quiet respite in the midst of
Paris, even in the summer.
Definitely one of my favorite places
to meet a friend...
or just to sit quietly alone.

Rue de l'Élysée de Ménilmontant - street art

Street Art

If you look at this address on Google-Maps
you will see only a plain corrugated metal building.

I found no signature but liked the effect of the patterns
as a background, the black and white realism of the boy, and
the cartoon-like blue birds.

I think that the café terrace just opposite on this narrow,
dead end street has a much nicer view thanks to this artist.

Église Notre Dame de la Croix de Ménilmontant

Église Notre Dame de la Croix
de Ménilmontant

The Neo-Gothic architecture was the
work of Antoine Héret.  Construction began
in 1863 and was consecrated in 1869.
In 1871, the Paris Commune met here at
the church and voted to execute the Archbishop
of Paris and his fellow hostages.

This photo was taken on November 13th (2015)
in afternoon light of a setting sun.  Four hours later,
our world was changed.

Quatorze juillet et l'anniversaire de mon blog!

Quatorze juillet

This shot was taken in 2008 on a two-week
solo trip to Paris.  I waited for what seemed hours against
the barricades on Champs-Élysées for the procession.
The parade was fabulous but the preparations
were even better.

It is not a coincidence that I chose this date
for the beginning of my blog six years ago.
Virginia Jones (Paris Through My Lens) guided my
entrance to blogging and I will be forever grateful for
her help and lasting friendship.

Thank you all for your support
and comments over the past six years.

So, is the light magical

that I overlook the ordinary?

Île aux Cignes - Statue of Liberty

Île aux Cignes
Statue of Liberty

This quarter scale replica of the original
was inaugurated on July 4, 1889.
It was given to the City of Paris by the
Parisian community in America to mark
the centennial of the French Revolution.
