Au Panetier - boulangerie de tradition

Au Panetier

On each trip to Paris, my "check list" includes two new boulangeries/pâtisseries.  Sometimes I have a specific name (Moulin de la Vierge) but often I just stumble into one.

Au Panetier has been in the same place on places des Petits-Pères facing Basilique Notre-Dame-des-Victoires since 1896.  The prices were extraordinarily inexpensive for 2 cafés and 2 pains au chocolat, enjoyed in the ambiance of the Art Nouveau surroundings.  In the fifteen minutes we were here (on the first day) there was a revolving line of people making their selections.  The extra treat is that this was just around the corner from our apartment!  While you are there you can pick up a sourdough baguette hot from the wood-fired oven to take with you.

I just wished for a small taste of pain au chocolat this morning and un café served in a Cafés Richard cup.  I hope that my friend Mary will enjoy one for all of us today!

bon weekend!

Although not as lavishly decorated, I used to go to a similar boulangerie when I lived in Marseilles. This is beautiful, and I love the extra details like the flowers painted on the ceiling. Can I join you for pain au chocolat et un cafe?

There are not that many inexpensive boulangeries in Paris, so I can imagine you were delighted:)

p.s. Forgot to mention that I love your header picture. During a 5-day visit to Paris in 2009 we especially enjoyed the River Seine tour with its oh so many fascinating bridges!

That sounds so good to me! Sigh...

Did you ever find a Cafe Richard cup?

I really wish that I had enjoyed a sourdough baguette, but there is always next time. One day during our stay we came here twice and noted that they must bake all day as the bins had been replenished. I think that they do a brisk lunch business of carry-out due to their reasonable prices and great breads. (Emille is correct!)

The decor is charming and original and it was difficult to take it all in during one sitting!

The "no photos" signs (drawing of a camera with a red diagonal line) do not bother me in places like this where there is a bustle of in/out traffic. It does bother me that Aoki whose tarts I adore will not let you take a photo no matter how much money you spend. Perhaps I will try there again on my next visit.

Gemma, I like the way you summed up the ambiance here.

Valerie, that makes two of us that are fascinated with the bridges of the Seine. Merci!

To all, I wish that we could all enjoy pain au chocolate for petit déjeuner this morning!

Genie

The little bakeries of Europe are just the best. I have not found any in our neck of the wood to compare with them. The delectable delights they have for sale are out of this world. Love your capture. It make me hunger for a taste or two. the other genie
