I have used their archives but have never been able to attend a performance in this house. The acoustics must be magnificent. I liked to imagine the horse-drawn carriages transporting the finest of Paris to the evening's entertainment, pulling up the ramp to drop them off at the entry, one floor above street level. The lights you photographed on the marble stairs are so deliciously delicate.
Oh, they are adorable!! I would love to have one of them in my apartment!

How interesting! What are they made from? For the life of me I can't figure it out. It almost looks like a material or paper skirt in which a light is placed inside.

Brittany -- I think that the bodies are paper maché and the skirts are fine, natural paper... They were not white but more of a natural color. You can see another one on my post on Dec 15 2010.

They are very cute, Genie, but I gotta tell you that I have no idea what I am seeing . . . how big they are, where they are (I originally though they were on stairs, but not after clicking it big), etc. I guess it will just have to be one of the mysteries of life.

what a lovely way to light your way to your seat at the ballet!!! I went to the ballet there on my thirtieth birthday!!! I went with friends that I met at the youth hostel (I was traveling alone in Europe at the time) and finished the evening on the Left Bank...(we walked through the red light district, unbeknownst to us until we saw the "ladies" standing in the doorways, paying more attention to the guy we were with than anyone else!) The memory is getting fuzzy, but I do remember the grandeur of the l'opera house!!! Gorgeous!!!
