Ballerine en Rouge - reflection

The December windows at Repetto on Rue de la Paix, almost in the shadow of Palais Garnier, were stunning with three ballet costumes. I took many photos and will share the other two costumes in later posts. It was not until I began to read and translate the silver wording that I discovered the following:

Jewels is a ballet from George Balanchine in three acts which premiered in 1967 in New York. Each ballet is represented by a gem:

Emerald, set to the music of Gabriel Fauré, evoking Paris and Opera, birthplace of romantic dance in France.

Diamond, is the classic Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsky and a hommage to Marius Pelipa at the Kirov Ballet.

Ruby, which is set to the music of Igor Stravinsky, recalls the dynamism and vivacity of musical comedies in NYC.

Repetto
22, rue de la Paix

Nice capture Genie. The bright red colour reminded me of the red in my posting for my February 14 posting. Hope you will be able to check it out then.

Incredible!!

C'est vraiment beau (ou belle?).

You seem to have some focus on red, Genie. Is that intentional, or subconscious?

Tant que ce n'est pas la couleur des lumières dans votre districe, c'est bien. Mais. . . .

Genie, every day I open your blog and have to say, "ooh, ah, or wow" ... but today it was just a gasp! This photo took my breath away -- By the way, I saw "Jewels" this past fall when it was presented by the Houston Ballet. It was magnificent!

The tutu is gorgeous on its own, but also beautifully set off by the chandeliers and wall o' ballet slippers in the background. Really nice, Genie!

Great shot. Red is the color for the women in your family (see Holly from a couple of days ago). I'll bet you look stunning in this gown. (Lace a cookie with ex-lax and give your 25-year old trainer a treat.)

Katalin -- Thank you for your kind words

Bibi -- Now you have made me quite green with envy!

Richard -- C'est vrai pour tous les jeunes ballerines... Merci

Bergson -- Oui, avec ces diamants, avec ces rubis, et avec ces émeraudes.

Malyss -- Merci pour de bonnes paroles(?), des adjectifs

Andy -- I have been featuring red most of the week and I will definitely check on your "red" on 14th of Feb!

Carol -- Merci and bon weekend!

Miss Sadie -- Oh, yes, it has been intentional with the day of hearts approaching. It seemed like a good week to think about those we love with the color "red" representing that to many...

Cynthia -- Oh, mais oui! They are having the sale according to their website but I do not remember how long the January soldes last...

Diane -- I think every little girl can see herself in this ballet, dancing in red.

Marie -- You are such a dear... I have not seen this ballet although Nanette (sister ballerina) emailed me to say that she was "Ruby" in the Jewels ballet.

Pilar -- You are an amazing woman with a beautiful blog... I love southern spain

Virginia -- You have a friend with rubies?!

Steven -- Getting in the right place is more than half the challenge... This was a point and shoot window, beautiful.

Tammy -- Merci! Hope that you and yours have a heart-ful valentines...

JM -- Thanks... Without the words one might just think that the color choices were accidental

Sylvia -- Merci, mon amie... a wonderful weekend for you as well!

Ciel -- You have such an eye for these things... It is an honor to be your "favorite"... merci!

Randy said...

What a festive looking display! I would really catch my attention.

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Gine -- Merci... rouge est un bon coleur pour des photos.

Alexa -- Having seen this display window several times, it is clear that the background would allow them to put just about anything in the window... I can't wait to see the next display

James -- Their windows usually have a "suspended" look with flowers or crystals or ballet slippers...

Léia -- Red does inspire passion and always catches my eye... Je l'adore...Merci et bon weekend, mes amis

'Tsuki -- Ah, you are quite observant as this was taken during Noël but with another theme... merci!

Cildemer -- Merci... I could go for the diamonds, the rubies, and the emeralds...

Starman -- You must at least go to the storefront to see the window on your next trip

Myriam -- anche a me... grazie!

Reader Wil -- Thanks, and it is always a treat no matter the season

Karen -- Thank you and glad that you liked it... glad you stopped by

Kate -- Well, the next time I post one of the others, I must use your alliterative title of "baubles, beads, and ballet" if you will allow... Thank you for your kind comments... My camera just loves "red"!

Randy -- Merci et bon weekend, mon ami!

I love this shop. They always have the best window decorations. I know I have some pictures of their windows somewhere as well. Maybe I'll have to take a look in the archives...

December window? It's amazing how this one works well for Christmas and Valentine's Day as well!

Wow!!! I remember some beautiful shots of Virginia's of this store...Such a fun shot!!! Love the red!!!

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Woody -- Yes, I often take shots of signs to help me figure out where I was and what I was thinking

Halcyon -- Oh, you should dig them out as I know that they do not repeat the window displays and they are always interesting

EG -- Red is red... unless there are little gold stars it can go for Valentine's Day and the 4th of July (hah)

Chieftess -- Yes, we were together when she shot that... we had lots of photos of those spectacular pink tutus and flower garlands... Merci, mon amie!

Sara Louise said...

This makes me want to be a ballerina :-)

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Sara Louise -- Me too, but I think that I am a bit old - hah!

Ninny said...

Wow. Now I want to take up ballet. Wonder how a 58 year old woman would look in a red tutu? No, on second thought, I'm not even going to envision that!

Incredible, the success of Repetto. (I never wore any!) :-)

TheChieftess said...

Liz...better than a 59 year old woman!!!

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Liz -- Well you could have a lovely red ballgown and join me for Mardi Gras!

Peter -- Glad to hear that! but I did notice on their website that they design shoes for men as well

K -- You and Liz are just too funny! Get a ballgown and come on down... March 8th this year which is the latest ever possible date for Mardi Gras (has to do with vernal equinox, Easter, and the full moon)

TheChieftess said...

A ball gown could work!!!
