Façade de 34, rue Pasquier

Not all of the elephants
seen in Paris are on carrousels

There was a rather famous one known as
the Elephant of the Bastille, a monument which existed
between 1813 and 1846 and was memorialized by
Victor Hugo in his novel, Les Misérables.

Le Grand Chat de la rue

"the big cat of the street"

Guarding this restaurant window on le premier étage
is this realistic and muscular feline.
As you look up from the street you can feel his stare.

I wonder if he chose this spot for the poissons et fruits de mer
(fish and seafood) featured on the restaurant menu.

"Here, kitty-kitty - nice kitty."

Marché aux Fleurs

Marché aux Fleurs

Rain or shine, the Sunday market
does not disappoint with an array of flowers and containers,
plus the birds, rabbits, and chickens!

Dimanche des Rameaux

Dimanche des Rameaux
(Palm Sunday)

In preparation for Palm Sunday in Paris
the ancient but active church of Saint Louis en l'Île
has both palm branches and a donkey.

The music for Dimanche des Rameaux includes

Le Café des Chats - un chat

One of the many cat residents displays
the mood and character of this salon de the.
All of the cats have been adopted from shelters and
are under the care of veterinarians.

The 'house rules' are simple: do not wake a sleeping cat;
wash your hands before petting the cats; no feeding the cats;
and, this is my favorite, no cat has to do anything s/he does not want to do.
Sounds like a great life to me.

Le Café des Chats

Would you enjoy your coffee or tea
in the presence of cats?

You just might achieve the level of  'aloofness'
to find that a cat, or two, would enjoy your company
sitting close by or jumping onto your empty lap.

Tomorrow: a cat!

Tabac - Cherche Midi Presse

A tabac is licensed to sell tobacco products
as well as newspapers and stamps.

Apparently it is good to have a friend along
to spend the day greeting customers.

Marché aux Fleurs et aux Oiseaux

The Flower Market
(and sometimes a bird market)

The Flower Market is open daily
but they only bring out the birds on Sunday.
As you can see from this rainy day photo,
the birds had all flown away (kidding).

People come from all over Paris and surrounding areas to buy
all imaginable types of birds from canaries and finches
to roosters and chickens.

E. Dehillerin - le coq

E. Dehillerin

The copper and brass rooster (le coq
dominates the front window of E. Dehillerin.
Perhaps he is reflecting on the last of the autumn leaves of Paris.

If you enjoy cooking and cooking implements
stop in here and also at Mora and G. Detou nearby.

Dans ma chambre!

No, these racoons were not in my bedroom,
but they made an eye-catching window display on Rue du Bac.

I have certainly never seen
un raton laveur in Paris!

Jardin du Palais Royal - le weekend

Jardin du Palais Royal

On a Saturday morning,
these three were feeding pigeons in the garden of Palais Royal.
The little girl looks a bit frightened by the numbers of these assertive birds.

Still, a glorious spot for spending a weekend morning with family.

Champs de Mars - les chevaux

Ponies in the Park

Festivities surround Champs de Mars in July
Pony rides and picnics

Tomorrow is quatorze juillet, La Fête Nationale,
and the third anniversary of Paris and Beyond.

I'll take a pony ride and a picnic, svp.

The Sharks and the Shoes

The creativity of a Paris window appeals to my artistic side.

The shoes appeal to my inner Imelda Marcos.

Rue des Thermopyles - de l'autre côté

2011 nov day 6 1106 DSC_0545

Rue des Thermopyles

After using a shot of this street for June CDP Theme Day's "decay,"
it seemed appropriate to show you the charming side of this street.
It is quiet with well-manered cats wearing collars,
green plants and herbs, window boxes,
bicycles parked for cat-pedestals, and no cars allowed.

This photo was taken in the fall
and these vines should now be full of leaves and blooms.

Rue de Roi du Sicile - un éléphant bleu

A blue elephant?

It seems that a photographer cannot pass this thai restaurant
in the Marais without taking aim.
It does not matter how many times you have snapped before.

Last week, the green plants and splash of pink orchid
called out for another shot.
The blue skies created a nice reflection.

Jardin des Tuileries - une petite grenouille?

une petite grenouille?

No, but this young fellow was quite comfortable
playing in the rain-filled puddles of Jardin des Tuileries.

The flâneurs and others in the park gave him a wide berth
as there was much water flying.

coa-coa
or should that be ribbette-ribbette?

la cocotte - objets gourmands

*la cocotte*

How appropriate that a street of restaurants and bistrots
would also display a boutique of "objets gourmands."

In looking for the translation of "la cocotte" I found:
darling, honey, love

Based on the website for *la cocotte* the word "hen" seems appropriate.
