diptyque - parfumerie

diptyque

This is a charming shop on boulevard Saint-Germain
specializing in perfumes and also scents for
the home.  Even if you already have a favorite there
are scents which are not available elsewhere.

Plan a visit to the original diptype store.
This small shop is big on friendly customer service and
I have always been well-received on my visits.

Les vitrines de jouets - CDP Theme Day

Looking out of a store window at the winter
landscape, the tin toys resemble paper silhouettes
against a palette of neutrals.

The theme for the City Daily Photo Bloggers
on this first day of March:  A photo that is in color
but appears almost as a black and white shot.

Les Marquis de Ladurée

Les Marquis de Ladurée

The windows of Paris never disappoint and
Les Marquis de Ladurée displayed
exotic birds of organza and wire

(Hint: If you have trouble getting
photos of windows without a reflection,
try an evening photo shoot.)

Le Grand Chat de la rue

"the big cat of the street"

Guarding this restaurant window on le premier étage
is this realistic and muscular feline.
As you look up from the street you can feel his stare.

I wonder if he chose this spot for the poissons et fruits de mer
(fish and seafood) featured on the restaurant menu.

"Here, kitty-kitty - nice kitty."

Aux Couleurs Modernes - quincaillerie à Paris

Aux Couleurs Modernes

This hardware store was established in 1876
and I can assure you that although this is a smaller
store than I have in my neighborhood,
you can find most anything you need here.

Having always called a store of this type
un magasin de bricolage, I do love the French
noun une quincaillerie.

Galerie de paléontologie et d'anatomie comparée

Paleontology Museum

I have seen the photographs and peered through the impressive
windows, but sadly I have never been inside to see the skeletons

It is on my list to accomplish this year

Aux Merveilleux de Fred

et voila!
Aux Merveilleux de Fred

"Fred" is Frédérick Vaucamps and his pastry shops are described as
"A visual and olfactory experience, the Merveilleux are made in
front of the customer in each of the stores."

So what is this Merveilleux? In a variety of versions
the core is a feather-light meringue coated in chocolate whipped cream with
shavings of dark chocolate.  Miam-miam!

He has given each of the varieties fanciful names:
The Incroyable, the Impensable, the Magnifique, the Excentrique,
and the Sans-Culotte.  Read more about these shops here

Un mystère

...continued from yesterday's post

She has rolled the creamy substance from the
bowl into balls.  Wonder if she feels the pressure
creating this "marvelous" concoction in the viewing window?

Une confiserie ou une pâtisserie?

Working in a shop window
as the world looks on...

What is being created here?
Cakes, macarons, elcairs, quoi?

Un café?

This small coffee shop
was a bit tattered with its fading blue exterior,
but the single barista supplied the customers with hot coffee.

The shop had no name and roughly painted white lettering
for the service hours.

Rue de Sèvres - le reflet

This unusual chandelier appears to float
on rue de Sèvres

The windows of Hermès are always intriguing
and we passed by this one at least twice a day.

Café Antoine

Café Antoine

Sadly, this charming little cafe
with its red facade
and zinc bar is closed.

Happy to say that before it closed
I enjoyed lunch with a friend as we sat
in this front window and chatted with the regulars.

Le Parc de Bercy

Le Parc de Bercy
La Maison du Jardinage

In late March one can only see
the slightest promise of a spring and summer.

The old vines cling to the house season after season,
and the new growth comes to life in verdant green.

Chaussures d'or

Gold shoes (petite)

Can you imagine how thrilled
a little girl would be
to wear these petite gold shoes,
to twirl in her full skirt
as she watches the little gold puppy-dogs dance?

Chocolat Foucher - chocolatier confiseur

Foucher
Maison de Chocolat depuis 1819

Rue du Bac is a meandering shopping street just behind Bon Marché.
This may be the "home" boutique for these fine chocolats,
and it even offers a salon de thé for a quiet respite from the holiday shopping.

I could imagine finishing the gift list with selections of chocolates
and then settling in for a chocolat chaud for myself.

E. Dehillerin - le coq

E. Dehillerin

The copper and brass rooster (le coq
dominates the front window of E. Dehillerin.
Perhaps he is reflecting on the last of the autumn leaves of Paris.

If you enjoy cooking and cooking implements
stop in here and also at Mora and G. Detou nearby.

Rue Gabrielle - 'shabby chic'

Rue Gabrielle
Montmartre

The dark reflection in the old glass panes
adds to the mystery of this premier étage.
The trace of last year's vines
and the slant of the frame itself are in stark contrast
with the fresh red geraniums.

I will take this "shabby chic" any day
