Le Café des Chats

Would you enjoy your coffee or tea
in the presence of cats?

You just might achieve the level of  'aloofness'
to find that a cat, or two, would enjoy your company
sitting close by or jumping onto your empty lap.

Tomorrow: a cat!

Un café?

This small coffee shop
was a bit tattered with its fading blue exterior,
but the single barista supplied the customers with hot coffee.

The shop had no name and roughly painted white lettering
for the service hours.

Saint-Denys du Saint Sacrement

Saint-Denys du Saint Sacrement

Etienne Hippolyte Godde was selected in 1823
as the architect of this church in the Marais.
The style is reflective of the time but the paintings of the Restoration Period
are of particular interest.
The most prestigious is the "Deposition of the Cross"
by Eugene Delacroix.

If you enjoy the work of Delacroix, you could go on a hunt
around Paris to see how many you could find in the Paris churches.

Jardinières avec des fleurs rouges

Window boxes

On the second floor of this building in the Marais
the bleeding heart flowers and masses of red blooms
first caught my eye.

The giant thermometer which could be read
from the street was a fascination.

Fabien Breuvart - Images et Portraits

How fortunate we were to meet Fabien Breuvart  (with the glasses)
who I featured previously here

I have visited him twice since, audaciously delivering a photo of him
that I took (see previous post).  Beyond the talent is his passion
for his art and for social issues and an incredible sense of humor

Patches, paint, patina...

through its portals

the stories it could tell

Merci - la cantine

The lower floor of Merci in the Marais
has a charming restaurant called La Cantine.
It is one of three at Merci

You feel as if you are in a country courtyard,
far from the busy boulevard Beaumarchais

Un petit passage

BILLTORNADE

Through open passageways one can walk into courtyards
and "visual opportunities" otherwise missed.
In this instance, there was not even a cracked door to be pushed,
but the dark green doors beckoned us through.

The graceful curved steps at the end are the business offices of Bill Tornade.
We only photographed and did not knock.

Robert Combas - Rue des Haudriettes

Robert Combas

A French artist born in Lyon in 1957, he has exhibited in France and New York City.
This painting was created in 2000 and is titled,
La femme lumière de l’homme

From a statement on his website, his art is meant to...

“provoke, that is, to trigger a reaction in the spectator
only to ‘invite’ him, beckoning him in
and whispering in his ear ‘come over and talk to me,
I want to tell you about the stupidity, violence, beauty,
love, hatred, seriousness and fun, the logic
and senselessness that pervade our day-to-day lives’ ”.

Leurs chemins se sont croisés

Crossing Paths

There were actually three photos of this mother/daughter pair
walking down Rue Saint-Paul in the Marais.

The blurred figure moving in the opposite direction
gave this shot a touch of mystery...
 with a sinister mood.

Des Chaises Vertes

Green Café Chairs

One can take thousands of photos
of café chairs in Paris without duplicating.

This red and green combination
made me want to stop to enjoy the setting.

Merci! - une petite fille avec un manteau jaune

Merci

For concept shopping in the Marais, this is the place.
Clothing, designs for the home, a used book café,
and more features all artfully displayed.

In the courtyard of Merci,
this little girl with the yellow coat
has been shopping...
Must be a French girl

Une boîte de bruyère

A box of heather

This rustic display of heather in full bloom
was seen at Sylvine fleurs on Rue Beaubourg in the Marais.

There is never a shortage of flowers
in the shops of Paris.

l'actrice en rouge

An actor in red...

Just outside Marché des Enfants Rouge,
we walked upon a film scene as they were finishing for the day.

She was not posing or acting,
but just being herself.

Métro République

Métro Station République

So many of the platforms are changing with  "improvements" so it is said.
This station opened on October 19, 1904 as part of the first section of line 3.

The glass walls that are being added certainly contribute to the safety of the passengers,
but I prefer to see the seats, the signs, and even the "framed" posters as they are,
unobstructed by the barriers to the tracks.

Where are you headed this weekend?
I am flying away to a petite birthday party!

Superette de la Bastille

Superette de la Bastille

The green and white stripes are a catchy backdrop
for the bananas, oranges and apples of this epicerie.
It sits in the midst of a busy boulevard (Beaumarchais)
and might otherwise be missed.

Although not a place for "big" shopping,
it is the perfect answer to grab a quick bite
or to pick up an essential item.
Wish this was just around my corner...
