Rue Jean Ferrandi - un lion

The details of the architecture are a delight,
particularly when you can see the sharp fangs of a lion.

He looks hungry...

Hello Genie:
Interestingly the teeth are very prominent - far more so than is usually to be found in similar lion heads, or so we think!

Il a un petit sourire sarcastique.

He looks like he is warning visitors to enter at their own risk.

Yes, he certainly does not look too friendly.

Very realistic ... and intimidating! You have such a sharp eye for detail! BTW I love the red boots capture from yesterday!

I am always amazed at the detailed stone work. These men were artists and their work is there for many generations to enjoy, yet we do not know their names. It's sad that their names are not recognized like other famous artists.

Is this meant to discourage door-to-door salesmen?

I like sculptures of lions. I took photos of some while in Venice too. I think heads of lions are often seen on buildings in various cities.

Very classic.

Connie, you will be pleased to know that many of the buildings do have the architects' names carved into the stone. This one did not but I always look for it.

Jane and Lance, with this lion, you could actually see his full mouth and tongue. His partner on the other side of the door was equally hungry and imposing.

Vagabonde, I agree, and my parents have a photo of me sitting on one of the lions in front of the NYC Public Library.

Bises,
Genie

The beauty certainly is in the detail. Well spotted. The teeth do look sharp indeed.
