En Glandant

Looking through the stalls at Marché d'Aligre on a Sunday morning, I saw this man just lounging on his motorcycle (zoom-zoom), probably just waiting for customers.

I titled this "Chillin"* but wondered if there was a French expression equivalent. I will change it if someone will tell me. changed it thanks to much reader assistance. It was Malyss who gave me several suggestions, and "glander" seemed the best fit. I also liked the Italian "dolce farniente" for the way it rolls off your tongue. What other languages have an expression for this?

*Chillin' = chilling = slang for "taking it easy"
French - glander
Italian - dolce far niente
Dutch - unitrusten
Czech - leháro or flákáni

C'est la version couchette du scooter... Belle saisie photographique... Gros bisous.

"Prenez facile" does NOT exist in french..You could use "zoner", which is really slang, and a little pejorative,or "traîner", trainasser"..The best would surely be "glander", which means,in slang, "doing nothing".This last is my favorite.

glander.... or "dolce farniente" but malheureusement that is Italian (my favorite lingua by the way.. not that I know it well, it all just sounds magnificent) !
love the photo

Even his jeans are a 'relaxed fit', Genie. He looks comfortable, even though I can't imagine how he could be.

'Cool' photo Genie and made even cooler by the black and white, very Robert D..

"Dolce Farniente" means "how sweet not to do anything.. It's much more elegant than "glander", which tells the same but is not a very elegant word.."Glander" matches with the guy on the picture. But Better use the italian for your title!Even if it's italian, it matches better with the smart spirit of your blog.

Yes, relaxed, but also engrossed in something that has caught his eye! I'm not talking croissants, either! Perhaps a pretty French girl?

Like the others, I can't see how he can be so relaxed on a motorcycle, but he does seem to be enjoying himself! I love it! And what a fun shot, Genie! The B&W shot is perfect! Hope your week is going well, mon ami!

Hugs
Sylvia

Feignasser?

Despite the modern zoom-zoom, there's something very "last century" about this photo. The hat perhaps.
Whatever it is, I think it's a great portrait!

We use more and more english words today, like relaxing or chilling, what comes from the rap scene.
In dutch we say "uitrusten"

Nice shot, Genie! Thanks for learning me a new french word, I mean "glander". I didn´t know it before. In czech we could say in slang "leháro" or "flákání".

Your photos capture such expressive scenes - each one a whole story in itself.

A quick and discreet capture Genie? Good stuff!
Here in Quebec, a phrase that is popular with the "contemporary" set is: J'prend ca relax! Judging by his body language, I think it may be appropriate here.

Fun post.
A la prochaine!

English has "slacker" and "goofing off."

Do V and you coordinate? Both are in B+W today.

What fun this has been! I always hate making a faux pas with a French translation and so I am glad that I asked for your help. Plus, I learned a few new words, too. Thank you for all the comments and suggestions... merci.

JB, I probably would have gone with your suggestion as it makes perfect sense, but the French are unique. Jack, I like the "goofing off" and anni's Italian phrase. Rob and Mandy's "feignasser" is catchy and Montreal's "j'prend ça relax" just sums it up. I made note on the post itself of the Dutch and Czech suggestions.

This fellow was probably a delivery person and was hanging out waiting for an assignment. He did look very comfortable on his zoom-zoom!

There are some very interesting people just waiting for me to capture them in a photograph... I am on the hunt!

Bisous,
Genie

My grandson Alex used to say "chillaxin'"; a hybrid of chillin' and relaxin'. Did he sign a model release? lol

""Prenez facile" does NOT exist in french"

Oh really?!

Please don't tell me that "Frappez la Route" doesn't mean "hit the road".....
