Un Bon Soldat

The uniforms of the French military are quite elegant for the 14 juillet, and it was a wonderful opportunity to photograph many individuals as well as the "regiments." As this soldier walked past me to join his battalion, I requested a photo. He nodded agreement and I quickly snapped.

I imagine maman would be proud to see her son in his fine uniform.

ps I've just skyped my French family and they had the lantern procession and fireworks in their village on the 13th - the eve of Bastile Day!

He is from the SPAHIs of Valence! Their special coat is coming from the times when Morocco was french. And you can see the sheriffian star (or Morocco star)on his uniform.
Yes, there's a proud mom somewhere!

It still takes me back as to how young some of these men in uniform look. A lovely moment, Genie ~ I hope his maman sees this.

Très chic!
I like the way you've captured his elegant uniform in front of a fashion shop.

Très élégant et débonnaire! Love the fancy cape -- reminiscent of bygone eras. Thank you, Malyss for identifying the regiment and history. It is quite interesting. Genie, you capture life so well!

Have you heard the saying "Every woman loves a man in uniform"? This is why! Be still my heart.

I feel another painting coming on!

A very cool young man...in the best sense of the word. Yes, women of all ages and nationalities fall easily for men in uniform, esp. young handsome men! Great capture.

You have caught this soldier very nicely indeed. Great expression. Thanks for your recent comments on my post. The insect you referred to is actually a Leafhopper, I did not know this until I e-mailed my pic to my son who is a entomologist he gave my the description and all the latin names etc... I am lucky to have a source of info like him. Ha Ha

Great catch! :)
That's some spiffy looking uniform but I can't help noticing the Louis Vuitton window in the background. Now, was this photo taken before or after your shopping there? Have a fun and relaxing weekend Genie.

I agree, such a striking photograph...

He is wearing mainly white with some red highlights, and you captured him in front of two mannequins with mainly white with some red highlights. It was meant to be!

What a striking portrait you've posted here, Genie. I'm curious, what kind of status does the military have in French society? Are they respected? Do guys -and gals? - join to escape their economic circumstances like so many do here?
