Café Chairs -- Place du Tetre

Here in Place du Tetre are all of these empty café chairs. Where are all of the people we saw swarming this lovely square in Montmartre? Where are all of the t-shirt clad tourists? Where are all of the boom-box hip-hoppers? The costumed characters? The souvenir hawkers? Well, they were here in Place du Tetre, and in front of Sacre Coeur, and on the steps as far as the eye could see.

I found it more restful and less crowded to snap these empty café chairs. I'll be back in December and think it will all be more serene.

Definitely a restful choice, Genie. I might just sit here quietly for a while, if you don't mind.

I love these! How cool would it be to have them in your house?! Thanks for the info on St. Barth's yesterday, you are just a world traveler, aren't you! ;) Have a fab holiday, Genie! XX!

I love those rattan chairs they are just so unique to Paris! and all facing out to people watch ~ maybe in December they will be all covered in snow. Enjoy your week-end Genie

Very cool photo, especially in b&w—and amazing that you were ever able to find 5 empty café chairs in Place du Tertre where, as you say, it's always a mob scene and pickpocketers paradise!

A rare find indeed. I think I would enjoy watching the artists at work if the carnival atmosphere wasn't so annoying. And the con artists etc are just the worst there and at la Tour. It will be nice in December but maybe to chilly for outside seating.

Ian -- Thank you for visiting my blog. I have left you a message. Merci!

Shell -- It only looks restful! It had been several years since I wandered into Place du Tetre and I was disappointed with the whole atmosphere. I had envisioned talking with an artist or two and wandering through the open air "art market." Tant pis.

Shari -- When I look at all the photos I have of café chairs and those of other bloggers I really would love to have 6 or 8 in my home for a constant reminder of Paris memories. (I think that they stack also -- even better!)

Dianne -- I would love to see them covered in snow! In December they are usually a bit damp from rain. There is no bad season in Paris but you select different activities.

Alexa -- You are exactly right. The only way to get this photo was to shoot right down the row. I was probably backed up to some group just behind me - hah!

Virginia -- Ditto on the carnival atmosphere! I won't be sitting in these chairs but it will be easier to photograph everything. I love the bare look of the plane trees in winter.

It would be great to be able to sit in one of those chairs right now. :)

I'd love to go to Paris in December. I've only been there in late January to mid February. Crowds are my biggest concern for my upcoming late October to mid November trip.

Hopefully I take enough good pictures to be able to convert my Something Sighted blog into a Something Sighted/Mostly in Paris blog for a year or so.

Ciao!

James -- I have never been in the fall but think that the crowds would be down, the leaves have turned, still not too cold... The chairs should be available in abundance!

I can't wait to see your photos and all the places you will find. Keep me posted!

Tant pis indeed! Place du Tetre was a disappointing mass of humanity. I also had envisioned being able to observe the artistes at work -- Ha, ha! All I was able to observe was the tourist mob. Beautiful, restful shot -- Asseyez-vous s'il vous plait.

Karin was trying to get me to go there today but I put my foot down and we went to the Quai de la Rapée and the Jardin des Plantes instead. I'm thinking it was a good decision.

Paris Paul,
Karin is a genius! Follow her everywhere in Paris. She has it all figured out!.

M -- It was not a restful place at all that day. I still do not know why these seats were not already taken in the crowded square.

Paul -- I hope that you went to Dodo Manège in Jardin des Plantes. Glad that you guys had a great day!

Virginia -- Wish we were going to Jardin des Plantes this Sunday.
