NO CRÊPES FOR YOU!

Well, I did leave out an "erie" place with delectable food in my post from yesterday: crêperie! However, this is more a street-vendor than a true crêperie.

In June he was at the corner of St. Germain and rue Bonaparte, in front of St. Germain des Prés church, with a steady line of customers day and night. We saw him several times each day as we exited the Mètro St. Germain des Prés. Certainly, it was necessary to have a banana and Nutella crêpe, but more than one?

I believe that Nutella is originally from Italy, but crêpes on the street just screams Paris to me! I carried jars home from Paris until I realized that the magic of the internet would bring this nectar right to my door. Even Delta Airlines has little individual packets in their club rooms now. Well, they did until someone (?) scarfed them all! Miam-miam.....

Yum!!! Banana and Nutella crêpes are my favorite! I can't get enough of them when I'm in Paris.

Sometime I think it's just as well I don't live in Paris—how does anyone resist this stuff? This guy does remind me of "the soup nazi." His shop was near my former office and we called him "the nasty soup guy" before Seinfeld took him over (p.s., I always got my soup).

Seeing the French locals line up for crêpes was so fascinating for me! I remember a bunch of school children skipping along to get their chocolate crêpe :)

Thanks for the beautiful memory

Do you realize we didn't eat a single crepe in juin??? Oh, such self-restraint! I am fortunate to have Nutella right in my grocery store -- or maybe that's a misfortune -- too much temptation.

WEll I 've NEVER had one in Paris. What is wrong with me? I guess I'm too busy photographing them. I got this guy too and he didn't look any happier for me! I did get a cute girl making crepes though. I suppose with all your many talents, you're a crackerjack crepe maker aussi?

Alexa, the soup nazi is back in business, according to Good Morning America.
I found hazelnut butter at Whole Foods. It isn't cheap but spread on whole wheat bread with some jam on top, it is pretty amazing.

James -- moi aussi! And, there are certain people I know who always say, "have a banana Nutella crêpe for me" ....and so I do!

Alexa -- My French-speaking daughter Holly and her family are in Mobile for a week and she said that someone would "get it" regarding the soup-Nazi -- You did!

Brittany -- One of my regular crêpe haunts is in the 5ième on the street outside a small café. This guy's set up was more like a crêperie on wheels

Brittany -- I did not see that scene on this trip but love to watch the children as they run along with nannies or parents after school

M -- Yes, we have been somewhat spoiled by the availability of Nutella in our country now, but someone told me that it does not taste the same as in Europe since it is being made in USA. I am tasting every chance I get to see if that is so -- hah!

Virginia -- Bien sûr! I can whip you up a savory crêpe of shrimp or a Nutella if you say the word! Much easier and quicker than les macarons!

Nadege -- I heard that as well. One of my sisters is in NYC for the weekend and I told her to check it out!

Mad -- Now, I didn't point any fingers about the Nutella packages. I will have to say that they are pretty handy when you just need a shot of chocolat and hazelnut. I ordered a box of the individual packages to have on hand. At least the single servings limit your access as opposed to the WHOLE jar. Yes, I have a problem!

Like Virginia, I have never stopped at one of these places, although I did stop at a crêperie in Toulouse. I had a Grand Marnier crêpe. I've tried Nutella but didn't really care for it.

Starman -- I will be trying a Grand Marnier crêpe. Hummm... need a recipe.

Nadege -- I heard that too. His soup was never cheap, but (back in the day at least) it was really, really good. We all decided the secret was in the stock. I wonder if it's still as good.

I don't know if I'd be game enough to order a crêpe here. Heh heh, reminded me of "the soup nazi", too. Luckily, we've had Nutella in our supermarkets here for as long as I remember.

Starman,
Well I think you and I need to land in Paris at the same time and do a little crepe tasting. :)
