La Fête de la Musique -- un quartet de jazz

(photo above courtesy of Marie -- merci)

What a great idea -- music on every corner, in every church, and in every café for the summer solstice on 21 juin. This year the jazz quartet at Pré aux Clercs (on the corner of rue Jacob and rue Bonaparte) attracted a large crowd as did the well-known Les Deux Magots only a block away. All of Paris (and all of France) was full of music this day.

Great way to celebrate the beginning of summer! Is there a celebration for the beginning of fall? As if I needed an excuse to return to Paris!

So atmospheric, Genie ~ perhaps you should go back at the beginning of fall to investigate! ;)

Great idea, Shell! I'll meet you there! From what I know of Paris there will certainly be occasions (if not specific moon phases) for celebrations!

Fun to listen to the music, love your photos! Have you ever attended Nuit Blanche in Paris? This is an all night festival where everything is open and free. http://www.venere.com/blog/top-5-events-in-paris-in-2010/ We were in Rome for Notte Bianca a few years ago and had a wonderful time. Always wanted to do this again.

Love the atmosphere you have recreated in these shots! Making me want to just be there, listening to the music and drinking a beer!

M -- Totally agree! and Virginia, you should have seen that sax player up close -- he was "easy on the eyes." Tant pis pour toi! The music was stunning also.

Rob -- I just looked it up and Nuit Blanche is the perfect fall celebration (excuse) for a quick return to Paris. I found it interesting and perhaps a bit "French" that the first 5 websites did not have the date in October (samedi, 2 octobre). Merci, and I'm off to comment on your fish!

Gringo -- Thanks! I usually only post one or two photos but it was not possible to get any feel for the atmosphere. It was great music and plenty of beer and wine were enjoyed by all!

Drummer looks like Michael in "Heat". Not at all easy on the eyes

Ah JB, his eyes did light up when he smiled. While they were playing the jazz they were very seriously into the music. (I have all of their names if we want to book them!)

That last sentence sounds defsus.....

I'll bet they were great musicians.

Lucky you to be there for the fete de la musique! (Apparently Virginia and I have similar taste in sexily scruffy sax-playing Parisian men.

JB -- huh?

Starman -- If not "great" they were at least enjoyed by the large crowd gathered that evening. They really did have a nice, mellow jazz sound.

Alexa -- Yes, Mr. Sax Player was fine!

Thank you for your kind comment. And thank you for leaving a comment as I now found you;)

Nina -- I will be back often. Merci

It is true, when you are in Paris you can find music everywhere – and good one in the métro. How I wish that they had music like that here. You can find it but it is usually in fairs with a lot of people rather than just in the streets of Atlanta. I read that “joie de vivre” is rated very high in France, I think that the US were not doing so well with happiness in their lives – they are a bit negative – more music….
