Cour du Commerce Saint André

Cour du Commerce Saint André

This covered passageway was opened in 1776,
running between rue Saint André des Arts
and boulevard Saint Germain.

It also follows a section of the perimeter wall
built by King Philippe-Auguste in the late 13th century.

Passage Jouffroy

Passage Jouffroy

How much would you love to have
a light fixture comme ça?

It was not for sale and
would not have fit in my carry-on.
Tant pis pour moi!

Un landau?

A baby carriage?

This little antique was sitting outside a notions boutique
in the passage du Grand Cerf.
The short handles and small wheels
made me think that it was a rather elegant doll carriage.

The convertible shade was made of leather
and I should have examined it more closely
for the name of the manufacturer.

Passage Verdeau - le stube

Passage Verdeau

The high fishbone glass ceiling and clean neoclassical lines
of this often forgotten passage are remarkable.

Built in 1847 it is an extension of
the passages Jouffroy and Panoramas.

Un petit passage

BILLTORNADE

Through open passageways one can walk into courtyards
and "visual opportunities" otherwise missed.
In this instance, there was not even a cracked door to be pushed,
but the dark green doors beckoned us through.

The graceful curved steps at the end are the business offices of Bill Tornade.
We only photographed and did not knock.

Passage du Caire - Restaurant le Champollion

Le Champollion

Not quite the lunch hour,
but the tables and chairs are ready

The heaters under the awning keep it a moderate temperature
on all but the most frigid days.

(Do not forget to look-up
at the head sculptures on the building)

Passage du Bourg l'Abbé

Passage du Bourg l'Abbé

Built in 1828 by Auguste Lusson,
it ran between the Passage du Grand Cerf and Passage de l'Ancre.
Although the passage itself is only a shadow of its former grandeur,
it is in the process of renovation.

The passage opening seen here is the work of Henri Blondel
who was also the architect of Bourse de commerce.
The two figures (caryatids) flanking the entrance
were carved by Aimé Millet and are allegories of Industry and Commerce.

Dear 4-eyes, gee!

Passage du Grand Cerf
"Dear 4-Eyes, Gee"

Opened in 1825 in the 2nd arrondissement,
it is now restored and charming with many artists and several ateliers.

Please forgive the silliness,
but it just called out to me.

Passage du Grand Cerf

Passage du Grand Cerf

Polished wood, glass windows, patterned tile floor,
wrought iron framing, and glass skylights all make for a
historic setting.

The fine crafts, galleries,
and custom made clothing add to the scene.

Passage Sainte-Anne Popincourt - l'Immeuble en reflet

Passage Sainte-Anne Popincourt

We were in a rush to get to Café des Chats,
but the four of us missed nary a detail along the way.
Often it is a puzzle to remember and document the location!

Passage du Bourg l'Abbé

Passage du Bourg l'Abbé

Perhaps not as well known as other passages in Paris,
it is yet a memory of the 19th century architecture.
Even without the glitz of the more groomed arcades,
it is worth a look, and is just across rue Saint Denis from Passage du Grand Cerf.

On a rainy day in Paris,
you can skip from one passage to the next
as many are clustered in this area.
