un Perrier et le Métro

Oblivious to the Perrier bubbles,
there was no effervescence
with these three commuters

Un chat et deux bicyclettes - Theme Day

A cat and two bicycles

He is just waiting for his master to return home.
Not a bad viewpoint from which to watch the world.

My City Daily Photo friends are showing their take on
this month's theme "bicycles" here.

les bateaux de Bastille

Seen from one of many Bastille metro platforms,
the boats anchored along Port de l'Arsenal
provide insight to life on the water.

It is just a stone's throw from Opera Bastille
and the Colonne de Juillet.

des motos

These motos appeared to be lined up for
a color-coordinated fashion shoot

My favorite siting was of
an orange moto and I even talked a friend
into posing next to it.

Le Premier Train Pour Paris

The First Train to Paris

Well, as you can see by all the passengers and the clock,
it is probably not the first train leaving Charles de Gaulle Airport.

However, it is definitely early!

Oh, could you imagine leaving Gare de Lyon
in this set of wheels?

It was exquisite.

La Trottinette

Crossing the street with caution
as his maman coached from a few steps away.

I am amazed at how early the little Paris children learn to ride
and how they can make the scooters fly!

Paris Métro - Ligne 4, Station Cité

Station Cité
Line 4

This Métro station is an impressive 62 feet under ground,
and the stairs, lift, rails, and platform are all contained in two metal caissons.
Built in 1911, it took a full year to complete.

This entire platform area is under the Seine!

"Movement" - City Daily Photo Theme Day

Square Trousseau

This young boy of three or four was moving at an amazing speed,
dodging the other "wheeled-children."  He was almost a blur as he passed in front of my camera.

The children of Paris learn to ride quickly in the parks and gardens.

Oskar m'a dit... allons-y!

Oskar

Oskar, the international traveling cat,
is taking me away to Paris and then beyond to Budapest.

We will meet up with friend, Alexa (Paris Encore) for a week in Paris,
and then we three fly to Budapest to visit dear blog friends.

I will be looking for hidden Paris places
and thousands of photographs.
Oskar is ready...

Destination:  Paris and Beyond

Place Armand Carrel - un cycliste

Place Armand Carrel

If you saw my post yesterday with a reference to Le Tour,
you will likely agree that this cyclist was not a contender either.

Taken on a Sunday afternoon just outside Parc des Buttes Chaumont,
we saw many cyclists of all ages enjoying the blue-sky weather.

No, this is not one of the bikes from Le Tour de France,
but a bright statement of maman and her little one.

Jardin du Palais Royal - la fontaine de jouvence?

The Fountain of Youth?

Was he meeting a friend or just resting
before getting back onto the streets of Paris?

He certainly selected a beautiful spot for propping his feet

Des Vélibs

Vélib bikes

Lined up and ready for riding...

It is an easy way to get around Paris and much faster than walking.
However, you need to have a good knowledge of the streets,
and I would not recommend taking photos while riding (bien sûr!)

Gare de l'Est

Gare de l'Est

Gare de l'Est resembles the Belle Époque generation of train stations,
and the west wing is the original building of 1847.
An interesting note: On October 4, 1883,
the Gare de l'Est saw the first departure
of the Orient Express bound for Istanbul.

On this day I was not venturing nearly that far,
but there is nothing quite so pleasant as traveling by train.

Palais Royal - un vélo très cher

Palais Royal

If you could read the mark on this bicycle
you would have an idea of its price.
Seen in the upscale shop at Palais Royal
it was gleaming in beautiful reflective silver as if to taunt me.

...still pouting because Santa did not leave me a bike this year...
again!

I am joining in James' Weekend Reflections today.
Take a look at other reflections from around the world.

Une fille française?

French girl?

Retro bicycle..
pouring rain...
stylish lace-up boots...
black swing-coat...
wicker basket...
and, of course, a precisely wrapped scarf

Yes, she's a French girl...

un vélo bleu - 'forever'

2013 Nov18 Paris _20131118 214 DSC_0320

a bike

I have wanted one "forever"
and hope that I will get a red one for Christmas...
with a bell, bien sûr.

Are you listening, Santa?
(Why should I have to go to Paris to ride a bike?)

Guess where I am going...
I am sure you know

PARIS!

I will still have a daily post and will have some on-site
updates of friends and places in Paris. À bientôt!
