La Grande Épicerie de Paris

La Grande Épicerie de Paris

If you are a "foodie" you simply must
make a trip to the Grande Épicerie de Paris,
a part of Le Bon Marché.

Wines, spices, foods from around the world,
produce, carry-out, pastries, a restaurant, kitchen supplies,
and just about anything else you can think of relative to food.

Did I mention that there is a whole aisle
dedicated to butter!

Rue du Bac

Rue du Bac

While his maman was shopping in the store
this petit enfant was captivated by the
display of Eiffel Towers.

I was wondering how to get this
item into an overhead bin
for the trip home...

Il pleut un peu?

The rain in Paris
brings out the stalker in me.

I had to chase down this gentleman
with his striped jacket, two-toned gloves, orange scarf,
knee-high boots over skinny jeans,
and the colorful (orange and black) parapluie!

Paris style

A simple black and white display
but with the style and panache
only to be found in Paris...

Would you believe that this
covered an entire two-story
wall in...

Palais Royal - Didier Ludot

Didier Ludot

The exquisite styles of decades past
are offered here at Didier Ludot, tempting haut couture
at unbelievable prices.

The displays suggest not only the dresses
but the jewelry and other accessories of that decade.

You know the place now where
"everything old is new again."

Le weekend - shopping

Weekend shopping

On any given morning
you will find people headed to their neighborhood market
or to the street markets.

You will notice that everyone knows one another
and that there is a relaxed social atmosphere.
Wish I was headed there this morning...

des gants et des mitaines

des gants et des mitaines
(gloves and fingerless gloves)

This window is as tempting as the fine Paris pâtisseries...
delicious array of colors

The prices are not that much more than some of the elaborate pastries,
and these will last much longer without any of the calories!

Place Michel Debré

Dressed for the autumn weather with its scattered showers,
this woman braved the streets with a confident gait.
She was in chestnut brown from head to toe,
save the locks of red under her hat.

Mona Bismarck American Center - l'escalier

Mona Bismarck American Center

This hôtel particulier was built at the end of the 19th century and remodeled by Stéphane Boudin in the 1950s for Mona Bismarck.  The windows, woodwork, and structural details retain the elegance of its origins.

Mona Bismarck was a philanthropist, a beautiful, wealthy woman who divided her time among residences in New York, Paris, Palm Beach, and Capri.  Her legacy lives on in this museum just across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower with its art exhibitions.  You can even have a party in the ornate premier étage salons with an unobstructed view of the Tower.

Palais Royal - un vélo très cher

Palais Royal

If you could read the mark on this bicycle
you would have an idea of its price.
Seen in the upscale shop at Palais Royal
it was gleaming in beautiful reflective silver as if to taunt me.

...still pouting because Santa did not leave me a bike this year...
again!

I am joining in James' Weekend Reflections today.
Take a look at other reflections from around the world.

Une fille française?

French girl?

Retro bicycle..
pouring rain...
stylish lace-up boots...
black swing-coat...
wicker basket...
and, of course, a precisely wrapped scarf

Yes, she's a French girl...

Avenue du Président Wilson - une fille française?

2013 Nov15 Paris _20131115 035 DSC_8988

Along Avenue du Président Wilson,
she walked with long strides in front of the gates of Palais Galliera.

She was dressed head to toe in shades of gray
offset by tresses of deep auburn.

Yes, definitely...
must be a French girl

Galeries Lafayette - prêt-à-porter II

2013 0521 Tues_36DSC_5455

Galeries Lafayette

The fabrics are like candy to the eyes,
and the designs are stunning.

On each trip to Paris I stalk this department
and even chat with les vendeuses.
Sometimes I boldly take my photos
but love the "askew" appearance of the stealth photos.

I will be back soon for more...

Must be a French girl

2012 Oct 9 Tuesday_8DSC_9340

Rue St Honoré

Stylish (but practical) boots
Short pencil skirt with black tights
Vented raincoat with a flounce
Understated flat leather purse
Coordinated scarf

...and, a peppy cadence in her gait

perhaps not, but I think that she
...must be a French girl

Café Grevin - rouge, rouge, rouge!

Café Grevin

The saturation of red at Café Grevin is enhanced
by a sunny afternoon

This cafe is next door to the Musée Grevin waxworks museum,
and was designed with a domed glass ceiling in one part,
along with wood paneling.
The decor is unusual with sorceress mirrors,
red velvet upholstery and enchanted screens.

I would be quite content to sit here
and watch the pedestrians on the boulevard.
