Pots de Cheminées

Chimney Pots, Flower Boxes,

Rather ordinary at the street level,
but stunning at the upper floors,
enhanced by flower boxes and blue skies

Jardin des Plantes - des flâneurs

Jardin des Plantes

In a misty rain
you will always see people in Paris parks.

This young maman was walking her baby
briskly between the showers of the afternoon.

Parc Montsouris

Parc Montsouris

Montsouris is located in the 14ème arrondissement
at the southern edge of Paris.

Opened in 1869 the park is one of the four large parks,
along with the Bois de Boulogne, the Bois de Vincennes
and the Parc  des Buttes Chaumont, created by Napoleon
and Baron Haussmann at each of the cardinal points
of the compass around the city.

It was filled with Parisians enjoying
a sunny clear November day.

Des feuilles rouges et orangées

Cimetière Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois

An explosion of red and orange covers the
ground beneath the empty branches
of maple trees.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Ephemeral

Jardin du Luxembourg

The autumn bloom of chrysanthemums are ephemeral
but our memories are imprinted with the many shades of gold and orange.

On the first day of each month, the City Daily Photobloggers
from around the world interpret the "theme" and November's
theme is "EPHEMERAL."  Take a look here.

L'or de septembre

September "gold"

There is something to look forward
to with the changing of seasons
in Paris.

This is the first glimpse of gold.
It will be another month before the Ginko leaves turn.

La Seine et les reflets d'or

The reflections of the golden-hued lights
were interspersed with silver.

The lone green light and its reflection
makes me think of Gatsby.

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis

If you have not been to Paris recently
you might not recognize the magnificent Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis.
After more than a year of work,
the exterior has been brought back to a nearly new appearance.

I had only seen the doors in a very sombre, dark and indistinguishable color.
As you can see, the details of the newly-painted doors are displayed in bright red,
ah yes, Paris rouge.

Quai de Bourbon - l'automne

Quai de Bourbon

Looking towards Pont Louis-Philippe from Pont Marie,
the quai and the riverside walk are almost deserted.
Golden leaves will soon be swept from frail branches into the Seine.
Within a month, this will be a monochrome palette,
save the red doors and a few window boxes.

Paris will take on her winter beauty

Les Ombres d'Automne

Jardin du Palais Royal

The alleys of trees are a delight no matter the season.
The green park chairs of Paris are covered in autumn leaves
which may lead to snow as winter closes in.

Well, not too soon, svp

Place Michel Debré

Dressed for the autumn weather with its scattered showers,
this woman braved the streets with a confident gait.
She was in chestnut brown from head to toe,
save the locks of red under her hat.

Sainte Geneviève des Bois - le cimetière russe

Sainte Geneviève des Bois
a Russian Cemetery

The Russian Orthodox Cemetery is not highly regarded
by the locals of this small town
and many do not even know of its existence.
I made the trip to see the tombstone of Rudolph Nureuev
and found the carpet of fallen ginko leaves as a bonus.

Wherever I have traveled in the world, I visit and photograph the cemeteries.
Although this cemetery is not well-maintained,
there was a quiet beauty of the season,
silent and colorful with autumn leaves.

La Tour Eiffel en automne

La Tour Eiffel

In the winter,
in the spring,
in the summer,

Can it be that the best season is autumn?

Poor M. Eiffel.  He did not live long enough to know
just how beloved his 'temporary structure' has become.

Shakespeare and Company

Shakespeare and Company

This charming, storied bookstore serves as a regular bookstore,
as second-hand bookstore, and as a reading library.
It is so much more than a tourist destination
and the interior looks much like it must have 60 years ago
when it was opened by George Whitman.
Today, his daughter runs it as her father did,
opening the space for young writers to work and live.

With the full color of autumn,
the leaves provide a coordinated color-match with the storefront.
