Pont de Sully

Pont de Sully

This is one of the few cast iron bridges
remaining in Paris today.  Built (rebuilt, actually) by
Haussmann in 1876, Pont de Sully is actually two bridges
connecting the eastern tip of Ile Saint Louis
with the banks of the 4th and 5th arrondissements.

La solitude

This gentleman had the quay to
himself and one would imagine that
many are now enjoying the August sunshine

Passerelle Simone-de-Beauvoir

Passerelle Simone-de Beauvoir

A few lonely walkers on the passerelle between le Parc de Bercy
and Bibliothéque Nationale de France.

Constructed of steel and installed in 2006,
it is known by Parisians as la lentille (the lentil).
It is an impressive work of art and a marvel of design:
The center span crosses the river without
external support.

Bateaux sur la Seine

Boats on the Seine

Dwarfed by the large Yacht de Paris,
the classic sleek wood bateau stole my heart.

One can imagine the same scene
fifty years ago....

La Seine - Préfecture de Police

Patrolling the Seine

There was a police presence in all areas,
including the waters of the Seine.

This police boat was in a hurry

Les Bouquinistes

La Seine et des Bateaux

The Seine and Boats

In warm, sunny weather living on a boat
moored on the Seine seems like paradise.

I will have to remember to check out
this scene in winter as well

Quai de Bourbon

A View along the Seine

The narrow strip is shared with the trees
showing the new leaves of spring.

A single flaneur has the space to himself...

Changement de saison - la Seine

It is almost spring and all across the hemisphere
people are looking forward to longer days and
warmer weather.

There will be many evenings

Pont Alexandre III

Pont Alexandre III

Adorned with gilt, ironwork,
and more details than can be seen in a single photograph,
Pont Alexandre III is a great spot for photographs.

At night you can enjoy the lights
of La Tour Eiffel with reflections on the Seine.

Theme Day - What Would I Miss Most...

Les Enfants de Paris

What would I miss most about Paris if I were never to return?
How can one even think in those terms?

...the people of Paris,
the children, the parks and gardens, the green chairs,
the music, the churches, the architecture, the history, the Seine, the bridges,
the Métro, the secret little spots discovered over 20+ trips, the food,
ex-pat friends, Parisian friends, the grand views from Paris landmarks,
sitting on green grass when it is permitted, dancing on Rue Mouffetard,
and so much more.

No matter what the future holds, I will always have a bit of Paris,
and all that it is, in my heart.

(and tens of thousands of photos, if I forget)

La Seine et les reflets d'or

The reflections of the golden-hued lights
were interspersed with silver.

The lone green light and its reflection
makes me think of Gatsby.

Quai de Bourbon - l'automne

Quai de Bourbon

Looking towards Pont Louis-Philippe from Pont Marie,
the quai and the riverside walk are almost deserted.
Golden leaves will soon be swept from frail branches into the Seine.
Within a month, this will be a monochrome palette,
save the red doors and a few window boxes.

Paris will take on her winter beauty

La Seine Quai de l'Hôtel-de-Ville

In the rain

The quai was almost deserted
in the late afternoon rains.

Ignore the weather and explore.
