Jardin du Palais Royal - les amoureux

Jardin du Palais Royal

There are a few places in Paris where, in good weather,
one can just about count on seeing young couples in love...
nothing that would embarrass your grandmother,
but a scene from a love story, perhaps.

This garden is at the top
of the list

Ce doit être une fille française - XXXIV

must be a French girl...

On a Métro platform, checking her smart phone with boots, scarf, hat...
all of this in late May!

(but spring was truly late!)

Le Nemours - être obligé d'attendre

Kept waiting at le Nemours....

At least there is much to catch one's interest near Palais Royal,
Comédie Française, Place Colette...

How about a glass of bubbly?

Jardin du Palais Royal - l'amour

Spring is not even in the air, but the lovers in Jardin du Palais Royal are unaware of the season and the weather.

These two brought a bit of sunshine to the dreary January afternoon.

(pssst, I do not think they are French but not sure why)

Palais Royal

As one walks out of the north end of the Jardin du Palais Royal,
this cavalcade of columns presents a maze of light and shadows
marking the exit from the quiet garden onto the streets of Paris.

Petit Bureau - Place Colette

In Place Colette, the very building of Comédie française, is this small office on le premier étage. The office is not be too petite and the view is stunning as the office worker can see the entrance to Métro Palais Royal Musée du Louvre and probably watch the Parisians on the terrasse of Le Nemours. Can you imagine working in an office with the Buren Columns and the fountains of Pol Bury just down the stairs?

Holly, Peter, and I walked by twice and she was steadily at work both times. She is a better worker than I would be!

Salon de Thé -- Le Musset

The bright, oversized decorations of Le Musset can be seen from a block away. No reason to be chased inside with inclimate weather... just duck into the heated area protected from the wind and order the Berthillon ice cream for dessert... brrrrrr!

Fountains of Pol Bury -- Reflection

This fountain and the moving silver balls make for interesting reflections in the Gallery d'Orléans, in the Jardin du Palais Royal shown previously here.

Fountains of Pol Bury

The Fountains of Pol Bury are found in the Gallery d'Orléans which separates the courtyard of Palais Royal from the garden. Since 1990, the traditional noon-cannon sounds every day.

Solitude -- Under the crown of "night"

Métro Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre is probably the most photographed Métro entrance in Paris. It was redesigned by Jean-Michel Othoniel in 2000 for the centennial of the Métro as the "Kiosque des Noctambules" (Kiosk of the night-walkers). There are two crowns constructed of glass and aluminum -- one representing "day" and the other "night."

The bench concealed under the canopy of "night" was part of the artist's installation for "chance encounters."
