Shakespeare and Company

Shakespeare and Company

This charming, storied bookstore serves as a regular bookstore,
as second-hand bookstore, and as a reading library.
It is so much more than a tourist destination
and the interior looks much like it must have 60 years ago
when it was opened by George Whitman.
Today, his daughter runs it as her father did,
opening the space for young writers to work and live.

With the full color of autumn,
the leaves provide a coordinated color-match with the storefront.

Alain is right ...one needs to read in english to truly appreciate the bookshop. But then as now there are certainly enough people to do so! I lobe the shop and the atmosphere there!

Can you believe I've never been there? No, I can't either. I've walked past many times, including on this trip. I must fix it. And soon.
