In Budapest, right in the centre of the town, is a place where padlocks now proclaim the love of couples the world over. Not quite Paris....but nearly!
No one is either too old nor too young to put a padlock on the bridge. Love the peace symbol on the handbag. All's right with the world: peace and love!
Pardon moi for being so far behind in reading your blog but I have now caught up. What wonderful memories of our trek to Chartres were brought to mind with your Sunday post! That is a great photo of the buttresses! Oh, and this photo is so sweet --- great capture of the locks of love :)
Vicki Archer had a great blog post on the Best Places to Kiss in Paris. I think the Pont des Arts must be at the top of list! You proved it. Great shot. V
A tender bit of discreet voyeurism, Genie. I had never heard of this padlock tradition. Puckered up on Paris' Pont d'Amour with peace symbol and padlock at hand--a perfect picture!

Lyn and others, the padlocks of love have been found on bridges in Rome, Banja (Serbia), Prague, Budapest (thanks Jane and Lance!), Paris, and many other city bridges. Now, in Paris after having been cut off Pont des Arts by the city, they appear on both Pont des Arts and Pont de l'Archevâché. They signify the love betwenn the two who affix the lock on the bridge, usually with engraved initials/names and perhaps a date. I heard that the couple throws the key into the Seine forever sealing their love for one another (are you gagging yet?). I added my own little twist in that the couple seals their love for each other and the city of light, promising to return together... Now, can you understand why I added that part?

Regarding this couple... I was in a bus with my husband (#72 - the bus not my husband) as we were taking the scenic route along the Seine after spending time at La Tour. I just happened to see them and quickly got two shots. The lighting and colors are just as you see them with the only modification to the original is a crop to take out the "trash can and sign." You can even see a bit of the haze/reflection from the bus window.
So romantic Genie, can you believe my son David and his new bride will be in Paris on the 23rd of this month for five days (they're in Spain right now) I'm so hoping that they love Paris as much as I do (really, how could they not!)
