La Fête de la Musique

Fête de la Musique
21 juin

I have been thinking about this wonderful day of music in Paris and all of France this week, knowing that today is "the day."  Two years ago I was in Paris with friends Marie, Virginia, and Mary and have special memories about the fun we all had that week, meeting new friends and on this day enjoying music all over the city.

Marie and I finished the day at Le Pré aux Clercs sitting on the terrace in front of the open windows enjoying the soft sounds of a jazz quartet.  L'heure bleue turned to a clear night filled with the sounds of music.

I will not be there this year but will try to enact a bit of that atmosphere at home.
What a great celebration to welcome summer!

Many great memories of this day , dancing in the streets of Paris - such a pity we will miss it this year.

ALSO I pressed the wrong button when I went to publish your lovely comment on my last post :-(.
Could you resend it please?

I bet there will be a lot of wonderful music. Here, we are heading into our annual Jazz Festival.

La musique calme l'âme, je pens.

Hello Genie:
Yes, in Budapest too, tonight is the night for European Music Day. As with all things Hungarian, the advertising is dismal and so we have no idea what will be on offer and where. But, this all adds to the fun. Serendipity is a marvellous thing....so we wait to see what happens!!!

Sounds like all of you had a wonderful time. I am a huge fan of jazz and would have enjoyed just sitting and listening to it.

I am there! I am there! Spending the night in the Latin Quarter with a girlfriend. We got to see and hear quite a few bands tonight... We are back in her cute room at the top of her hotel, Le Relais Christine. The window is open, and I can hear the music in the distance. A dream. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

Hi... It is the other Genie here. This is a wonderful portrait. I love the way you captured the thought and concentration the musician is putting into his bass plating. I know you all must have had the best time. I would love to go back. genie

Chère Genie, it was a magical evening ... Music everywhere ... A fabulous concert at La Madeleine ... and the delightful light supper and jazz to wrap it all up. It seemed like the sun never set ... such fun! Bisous!

Robyn, I hope you know that there are many of us who would have loved to have joined you today!

Martine, I know that you always have had music close at hand... I would love to hear the music of your village.

Jane and Lance, how delightful! I guess part of the fun will be "the hunt" for the music today... At least you are well-versed in Googlemaps now - haha!

Veronique, I kept feeling all day that there was someone singing in my head... it was you!

Marie and I had a chat as she drove home to her husband from work tonight, talking about that wonderful day with Virginia and all the music we heard... Like Marie said, it was as if the sun would never set on the 21st of June in Paris...

Bises,
Genie

I should have hung with you two a little longer and I could have heard these guys!
