Père Lachaise - room with a view

Known as the "grandest address in Paris" this cemetery of over 100 acres is the final resting place of both the famous and the infamous. It is a great place to wander with a purpose, perhaps to find the tomb of Chopin and Delacroix, or to flâner the cobblestone paths admiring the beauty of times past. Maps are available at the front entrance gratuit if you want a purposeful search.

It is a wonderful place to wander and I spent a day doing so with my Hubby. I never thought I would spend a day in a cemetary but it was fabulous!
from the kisses on oscar wilde's grave to ...hunting for Edith Piaf....quite something

That brings back memories, when I stayed in Paris 2 weeks to help a friend to move into her new flat. We also went to Père Lachaise of course but at that time the grave of Jim Morison was not protected yet, so there were a lot of druggies gathered around the grave decorated with seringhes an spoons etc, it was horrible. When I came back in 2004, it all had changed. Fortunately! It's a very interesting cimetary.

I don't visit cemeteries, but I've come to terms with the notion of visiting this one. It sounds and looks too special not to take a wander there.

Cemeteries are supposed o be sad places, but this one is not. It's peaceful to stroll there, and always moving to see graves of famous people. At the end, there's at least one place where we may all meet..

Yikes! Touring the dead! To tell the truth I've done it myself. I have a photo from Arlington National Cemetery of Audy Murphy's tombstone. Unfortunately it was taken on film and has not held up over the 30 plus years since I snapped it.

I could spend an entire day in this wonderful place—and have, picnic lunch and all (but you can't bring wine). You've captured the light and the peaceful feel perfectly, Genie!

A very interesting place, Genie, the scene of many "grave undertakings."

P.S.: I like the new picture of you, too!

«Louis» regrets that he has never visited Père Lachaise - but the fact that he hasn't is a splendid excuse to go back to Paris...

I have heard of Pere Lachaise for decades but have never visited. Got to move that up on my bucket list.
