Une Petite Terrasse

A Tiny Terrace (indeed!)

On this rainy day the diners
were cozy and dry inside
this traditional pot-au-feu
restaurant.

La Chaumière en l'Île - la terrasse

La Chaumière en l'Île

On a quiet street, under the shade of trees,
 this terrace looks quite inviting.
However, I am always a bit suspicious
when there is a sign in English.

Perhaps I am a tourist-snob?

Paris rouge - une terrasse

Café terrace

With a view of Palais Garnier and the people passing by,
a seat here on the café terrace is just about perfect.

Lutétia Île Saint Louis Restaurant

Le Lutétia

The usually busy tables were noticeably vacant on this rainy May afternoon.  However, from inside the large windows give a great view of the quai, the Seine, and Pont Louis Philippe.

In the course of an hour or two we watched several stories unfold in the rain:
a drowning in the Seine, a family drama on the terrace, and wedding pictures on the quai below.

You do not always have to rush around Paris to see the city.
On some days the city comes to you.

Le Petit Colbert - le café

Le Petit Colbert

Too early or too late
This empty café will be bustling within a few hours...

Wish that we were there now

Un café et des cocktails

a colorful café

This terrasse on Rue de Turbigo, captured my attention first for the colorful café chairs, but the Cafés Richards cups were my favorite.  The mixture of colors and patterns remind me of the simple design and secondary colors of Fiestaware.  After the 2010 trip an artist friend, Carol Schiff, created this beautiful interpretation of the cups, a daily reminder of my Paris obsession.

Rue d'Aligre - un café

2011 1106 Nov day 3 DSC_0477

Rue d'Aligre

Taken on a busy market day (Marché d;Aligre),
there is scant room for café table and chairs.
Still, the pastries and a coffee (or thé) can be enjoyed
as the market vendors shout out the quality of their wares.

One thinks that the price of the coffee and pastry is small
for this front row theatre seat.

Chaises de café en noir et rouge

Café chairs
in black and red

When I think about the café chairs in Paris, I can close my eyes and feel the weave of the seat as I settle in, the sounds they make as you shift your weight, and the warmth of the webbing on a cool day.

If you let your imagination run, you will hear the French conversations, the sounds of the Café Richards cups and saucers, and the smells of fresh croissant, pain au chocolat, and rich coffee.

When you cannot be in Paris, a creative mind can give you a few moments of memory and anticipation.

Village Bercy - la bouteille rouge

Bercy Village
Cour Saint-Émilion

The customer snuffed out a cigarette and left.

I snapped a photo before the table was cleared
and the red bottle disappeared!

(I am not the only photographer of Paris
who snaps dirty café tables)

Rue Auber - le serveur

2012 Oct 6 Saturday_8DSC_8602

A cafe on Rue Auber

A classic street scene in any part of Paris.
This cafe is just around the corner from Cafe de la Paix
and probably not as expensive.

You still get a great view of Palais Garnier
from this sidewalk terrace.

Terrasse - des tabourets noirs?

As chic as this small cafe appears with the toile-covered chair backs and white tablecloths, I much prefer the standard Paris cafe chair to these black stools.

Surely there is a story about this restaurant in Paris named... "Jet-Lag"

All that I have read is that it is an American style (?) restaurant with about two and a half stars (out of five) on several rating sites.  Three additional questions:

Why would you put an American style restaurant on this wonderful street for foodies in Paris?

and.... why would you give it such a repulsive name?
Do you really want to eat in a place called "jet-lag"?

On a positive note, I do like the red and white café chairs and tables.
