Swan Lake

Once upon a time a Princess named Odette 

was under the spell of the Evil Wizard Rothbart.

 He turned her into a swan after the moon set

and the spell could only be broken by a vow of everlasting love.

The Paris Opera Ballet performed Rudolph Nureyev's production of 

Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake earlier this year. The Repetto window 

pays homage to the genius of the composer and the choreographer.

The large window of the Repetto flagship store on Rue de la Paix

will always amaze you with its beauty and creativity.  

My favorites are those which feature a ballet such as this one.

The reflection here belies the upscale street of Rue de la Paix.  

Perhaps the black and white image gives it a less polished look, 

but I can assure you that the rent here would be quite high.

It is always a treat to see the Repetto windows on Rue de la Paix 
with crystal chandeliers and wall of mirrors.  
The snow-flocked trees frame the ballet scene vignettes.


By January 7, the windows will have a heap 
of once-worn pale pink pointe shoes to announce Les Soldes.

It was raining on the evening of Beaujolais Nouveau Day,

but this chic French girl with her long black velvet coat 

and red plaid parapluie was content to stroll down Rue de la Paix 

to window shop in Place Vendome.  

The streets were almost empty and the three of us 

enjoyed the lights, the misty rain, and the unbelievable windows.

Repetto XIII - "pink"

Repetto pink

Repetto's windows are perhaps my favorite 

and definitely the most anticipated on each trip.  

The main store on Rue de la Paix is just a short block from Métro Opéra.

not to buy the shoes, but to gaze at their window display.

This boutique is next door to Repetto on Rue de la Paix

so it is a stop for me on every visit to Paris.

Some chic babies in Paris will be dressed in saumon et gris this season,

but I do not think that those little soft shoes will do well in the chalky dust of Tuilleries. 

At this age, she will probably ride in a poussette (stroller), oui?

Repetto VII

A trip to Paris is not complete without a visit to Repetto on Rue de la Paix. Although there was an expectation of an exquisite display*, the single poster of Danseuse Étoile, Marie-Agnès Gillot, features a beautiful and talented ballerina.

Although the tickets are très cher, I would love to see a ballet at Palais Garnier, just down the street.

Although Repetto has men's shoes, I have not seen them for sale in the Paris boutique window, hummmm.....?

known the world over for its ballet shoes,

also makes les chaussures for women of all ages, men, and children.

Repetto -- For Nanette

I cannot say how many pairs of pointe shoes I stumbled over growing up, nor the number of times she extended her leg up the passageway wall in an elegant stretch. No one talks about where the hundreds of worn out pink satin shoes went or how many lambs might have been sheared to make the padded cushions protecting the balerina's toes. Nanette, my dear sister and friend, this one is for you.


Repetto went on "the list" when Carol of Paris Breakfasts talked about finding the boutique here. I had already mapped it out before my arrival in June and walked to this incredible spot just after sunset with three friends (Marie, Mary, and Virginia). It did not matter that it was closed as the windows provided a great peek at an entire wall of pointe shoes, all pink of course.
