Repetto - Coppélia

Repetto's Window

The ballet Coppélia is featured in the windows of Repetto on rue de la Paix.

The ballet was originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon
to the music of Léo Delibes and its premier performance
was in 1870 at Théâtre Impérial de l'Opéra in Paris.

I am always drawn to this window on each visit to Paris
and can hardly wait to see what the imaginative designers have created.

Repetto - une réflexion

Repetto

The reflection here belies the upscale street of Rue de la Paix.
Perhaps the black and white image gives it a less polished look,
but I can assure you that the rent here would be quite high.

Repetto en hiver

Repetto

It is always a treat to see the Repetto windows on Rue de la Paix
with crystal chandeliers and wall of mirrors.
The snow-flocked trees frame the ballet scene vignettes.

By January 7, the windows will have a heap
of once-worn pale pink pointe shoes to announce Les Soldes.

Repetto XIII - "pink"

Repetto pink

Repetto's windows are perhaps my favorite
and definitely the most anticipated on each trip.
The main store on Rue de la Paix is just a short block from Métro Opéra.

Repetto - XI

La vitrine de Repetto

When I arrive in Paris, Repetto is one of my first stops,
not to buy the shoes, but to gaze at their window display.

My favorites are those with ballet tutus such as here.

Repetto - IX

Dansez!

The Repetto window on Rue de la Paix is always on my list...

This display in white gives the illusion of petals being blown from a delicate flower.

Repetto's window on Rue de la Paix is always on my list,
and the petite souris did not disappoint.

Repetto VII

A trip to Paris is not complete without a visit to
Repetto on Rue de la Paix. Although there was an expectation of an exquisite display*, the single poster of Danseuse Étoile, Marie-Agnès Gillot, features a beautiful and talented ballerina.

Although the tickets are très cher, I would love to see a ballet at Palais Garnier, just down the street.

Dansez-vous?

A few weeks ago just after dark, Marie, Peter and I were walking back toward the apartment along Rue St. Honoré and saw this window display at Chantal Thomass. The creativity of the "window artists" never ceases to amaze me in Paris. Here we have a salute to ballet with an authentic ballet barre, tutu, and pointe shoes (Repetto, bien sûr)... all with the promises of luxurious lingerie. Nothing naughty, just elegant French lingerie.

Would you buy these?*

Repetto - encore!

Although Repetto has men's shoes, I have not seen them for sale in the Paris boutique window, hummmm.....?

I'll take these red ones!

They will match my candy-apple red Danskos...

Ballerine en Rouge - reflection

The December windows at Repetto on Rue de la Paix, almost in the shadow of Palais Garnier, were stunning with three ballet costumes. I took many photos and will share the other two costumes in later posts. It was not until I began to read and translate the silver wording that I discovered the following:

Jewels is a ballet from George Balanchine in three acts which premiered in 1967 in New York. Each ballet is represented by a gem:

Emerald, set to the music of Gabriel Fauré, evoking Paris and Opera, birthplace of romantic dance in France.

Diamond, is the classic Pyotr Illych Tchaikovsky and a hommage to Marius Pelipa at the Kirov Ballet.

Ruby, which is set to the music of Igor Stravinsky, recalls the dynamism and vivacity of musical comedies in NYC.

Repetto -- For Nanette

I cannot say how many pairs of pointe shoes I stumbled over growing up, nor the number of times she extended her leg up the passageway wall in an elegant stretch. No one talks about where the hundreds of worn out pink satin shoes went or how many lambs might have been sheared to make the padded cushions protecting the balerina's toes. Nanette, my dear sister and friend, this one is for you.

Repetto went on "the list" when Carol of Paris Breakfasts talked about finding the boutique here. I had already mapped it out before my arrival in June and walked to this incredible spot just after sunset with three friends (Marie, Mary, and Virginia). It did not matter that it was closed as the windows provided a great peek at an entire wall of pointe shoes, all pink of course.
