Two pergolas with a canopies of
wisteria vines, a deep gold in late November.
Spring will bring the purple blooms....  soon.

Une belle matinée de printemps - Parc de Bercy

Parc de Bercy
a fine spring morning

Only a light breeze put the ripples on this bassin,
while the ducks added concentric circles
like artists with brushes on a canvas

bon week-end

Le Parc de Bercy

Le Parc de Bercy
La Maison du Jardinage

In late March one can only see
the slightest promise of a spring and summer.

The old vines cling to the house season after season,
and the new growth comes to life in verdant green.

Bercy Village - Cour St. Émilion

2012 Mar 27 Paris_035DSC_4149

Cour Saint-Émilion

Bercy Village consists largely of small wine warehouses from the late 19th century.  The tracks seen in the paved courtyard above were originally used to transport barrels of wine in and out of the warehouses.  For more than a century and up until 1960, the Bercy neighborhood was a vast wine market.

Although some may complain that this has become a tourist attraction with its shops, bars, and restaurants, the architecture has been preserved (along with the rail tracks), and it has the feel of a historic village.  It is at the southeast end of Le Parc de Bercy and is easily accessed by Line 14, Métro Cour St. Émilion.

Le Parc de Bercy - les ombres

Railway tracks and a brick-paved path...

long shadows of early morning...

an empty Paris bench...

birds enjoy the solitude
