La Sainte-Chapelle

La Sainte-Chapelle

As you enter through the lower chapel of this Gothic flamboyant church,
you are struck with the deep, rich colors trimmed with gilt.
As you climb the narrow staircase to this upper chapel,
seeing the panorama of stained-glass windows
you will gasp at the magnificence.

I have seen it many times, knowing just what I will see,
and it still takes my breath away.

bon dimanche

I can understand -- it would take my breath away every time as well! Thank you so much for stopping by and commenting, Genie!! Things have been a bit hectic lately and I haven't been able to comment on as many posts as I once did, but yours are superb as always and I hope to be able to visit more frequently again soon!! Hope you're enjoying a lovely weekend!!

Stain glass windows kept me occupied in church growing up. I never would have survived those masses every Sunday without them.

Yes, we definitely on the same page today. I like to stand near the top of the stairs in the upper chapel and catch the expression on the face of people seeing this place for the first time. :-)

The moment I came up those stairs for the first time, I gasped. I'm not a gasper but it was so ravishingly beautiful, so celestial, that I could not resist. That wouldn't happen the second time, I thought -- but it did. Unvoluntarily, just in amazement of its beauty. Hearing a concert here was divine with the acoustics -- even if it was that old-time fave, Four Seasons! (I love it, but it's overdone!)

We visited here last year, we toured the Concergerie first and then La Sante Chappelle, very moving and then very uplifting. Beautiful, Jane x

All that stained glass is quite amazing. Can you imagine the intricacy of putting that all together? A bit dark, but I suspect not too bad on a bright day.

Bon Dimanche, Génie!

Blessings and Bear hugs!

Je regarde la cloche. C'est la même heure chez nous! Plus ou moins douze heures.

The stained glass in old European churches can be exceptional. I see why this one takes your breath away, Genie.
