Le Pompier

The Sunday street market at Marché d'Aligre had a special treat the day we visited. All of the posts along the street (everywhere in Paris) were decorated. Some were simple, others, quite artistic, and the one above just perfect.

The firemen (les pompiers) were selling calendars and probably had decorated this pole. I have some others to show you another day (have to figure out how to produce a collage first).

Ah, le prestige de l'uniforme!... Je comprends que tu sois encore toute tremblante devant ce souvenir, Cergie... :-)
Bonne journée!

Bonjour Genie ~ How cute is that fire hydrant and I'm sure les pompiers were even cuter. Good luck with your collages!

Love the creativity of the decorated poles ... and marvel at your ability to bring us such interestingly unique photos!

So adorable! I've never seen this before--ever--which makes me wonder how I missed the season of calendar fundraising over there! xo

This pole decoration is the best. V is going to be envious of this photo -- truly Paris Rouge, n'est-ce pas?

That is clever! During the fall, I went through a small GA downtown where they had scarecrows decorated for each business. They were all specifically decorated for the type of business they represented. It was the cutest thing ever and I didn't even have a camera! I know, that breaks one of your cardinal rules!
I also enjoyed your previous post. Didn't know they had such a big Mardi Gras celebration in Mobile!

How very clever and cute to decorate the poles that way! And you were clever to capture it for us to enjoy! Merci!

He's dreamy! And the decorated post is cute. :)

Making a collage is easy if you have Picassa. First of all, your photos need to be in the same album. Once they are, select the ones you want to collage and go to the menus on the top where is says "create". There is an option in there for photo collage. Once you have done that, it's easy to switch things up and get your collage to look like you want it to. Have fun!! And can't wait to see it.

Cute decoration. I have never seen anything like that before.

I LOVE the way they've decorated this post. If one uses one's imagination, it could almost be a space alien on the streets of Paris.

Fun!!! When I first glanced at the top photo, I thought les pompiers was holding a child's hand...and the child was all dressed up in a costume!!! I think I'm still thinking Mardi Gras!!!

What a beautiful visual vacation you just took me on! And now I want to know about the Pompier Calendar- is it as good as I suspect?
Are you based in AL? I am just sending my first commission to that state (first one to AL, I mean!) - Pike Road, I guess it's a town.

I love the decorated posts, too. And the Mardi Gras photos - the little girl!!!! Oh! Thank you so much!

Very clever! So did the calendar feature pix of beau pompiers in (or out) of their uniforms?

Super! You do capture the man in the uniform!

Both 'pompier' are cute!!

That is too cute. Very creative indeed.

Cute. Of course, I don't understand why anyone took the time to decorate them all, but then again, there is a lot I don't understand.

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Richard -- Hah, tu me fais rire!

Dianne -- It is cute but it is not really a fire hydrant. It is something (non-functional) attached to the post, what I would call a stanchion. They are the posts all along the sidewalks in Paris to keep cars from pulling onto the sidewalk.

R -- Merci, mon amie

Miss Sadie -- No fire here! Merci, mon p'tit chien.

biebkriebels -- This was the cutest of the bunch

martine -- Merci, mon amie, mais ce ne sont pas de bouches d'incendie.

Marie -- You are so kind, my dear friend.

AA -- I think that the pompiers were capitalizing on the art-in-the-street event to sell the calendars... all good, of course!

Harriet -- Very Paris rouge, mon amie!

Tammy -- This is a similar idea. I think that they did indeed decorate this pole but I am not sure about the relevance of the other artists... You will see when I post some of the others. Merci!

Virginia -- You are the queen of rouge, mon amie!

weekend -- Merci... beaucoup d'humour!

Shelley -- There was a bustle of activity that day and I almost missed this (Holly spied it first)

Halcyon -- Thanks for the tips, my friend... I will try!

Loree -- This was probably the cutest of all, particularly with those goggles!

Starman -- You are so right... it does look a bit foreign as in waaaaay foreign, not just French foreign - hah!

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Chieftess -- You are soooo funny! Merci...

Cezar -- It is indeed a beautiful profession and we are humbled by their heroic actions... God bless you, too, my friend.

Bergson -- Les pompom? C'est le p'tit pompier? Ah, oui!

Kelley -- I do reside in Alabama but I have not heard of Pike Road... glad that you have a commission here!

Alexa -- shhhhh.... Je ne sais pas. J'aurais dû acheter l'un des candriers!

rosaria -- Oh, I am a sucker for a man in uniform - hah!

Bibi -- Merci, mon amie

Bird -- Almost as funny as your posts!

Randy -- Now we know what they do with their spare time at the pompier house

Jack -- Me either, and some of them were a bit weird. Not nearly as much effort as this one.

Great portrait. The decorated pole seems to be looking at you in the b&w shot! :-)

JM -- Merci, and you are right... He was such a cute creation.
