Boulevard Edgar Quinet - des chapeaux

Arts Fair
Boulevard Edgar Quinet

Along Boulevard Edgar Quinet there is an open produce market in the central alley of the boulevard every Wednesday and Saturday morning (7am-2:30pm) and an arts fair every Sunday (10am until sunset). On this spring Sunday an artist was displaying a colorful assortment of hats.  Other vendors offered watercolors, collage, handcrafted leather, pottery, and other art and fine craft.

L'oiseau et le chapeau

The bird and the hat?

This flashy window of H&M
is nestled between the grand windows of Le Printemps
and Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann.

The windows of Paris fascinate me and
I only wish I could be there to see them each time they change.

I try, believe me.

La tribu des oiseaux

The boutique on Rue Saint Roch offers stylish hats,
but tonight, this fluff of a dress steals the spotlight.

Ultramod Mercerie - Vente au Detail

The interior of this shop is even more charming than its windows.  We found this charming mercerie (haberdasherie, notions store) with thousands of buttons, ribbons, silks, hats, feathers as we wandered out of Passage Choiseul.
In looking for more information, I discovered the wonderful history recounted here by Colleen of Colleen's Paris.

One thing is certain, at every turn you can uncover a story in Paris.

La toque de chef

I think that this chef was just taking a break or perhaps just starting for the day on Rue Jacob.  Is it me or does la toque (chef's hat) seem just a bit too small for his head?

I do love the chef's attire and the starched hat.

Le Bon Marché -- des chapeaux

If you have been reading my blog for a period of time, you know that I am almost as passionate about hats as I am shoes...

This chapeaux is not quite my style but I was captivated by the design.

What do you mean, pas de photos?  Whoops

Un chapeau de dimanche

I was going through all my photos of Paris hats and realized that I had missed this one.

It was taken during a lively meeting of bloggers and friends enjoying a Sunday déjeuner (Mary, Marie, Virginia, Anne Hervier, Maya, and Janet).  They had us seated along the back wall for a reason!

We saw a young woman wearing this chic chapeau of black tuile and after entering gently placed it on the shelf and coat rack separating the dining area.  I wish that we had snapped her before she removed it, but once placed on the shelf it had the appearance of a display in a fine boutique.

It was a great day spent with friends:  old, new, and just-met.

Un Chapeau Rose

Walking from our apartment to Jardin des Tuileries is a small boutique of hats. This bright pink with a feather seemed perfectly French to me.

Bon weekend

Un chapeau et un .....?

Un chapeau et un .... je ne sais pas!

I was sneaking a photo of this stylish hat at Le Bon Marché as I had done before and in reviewing my daily collection of photographs, I wondered what exactly was that to the right of my focus. Is this another hat? Surely not -- it looks like wadded up underwear (albeit Parisian lingerie) that has been bunched up on a headband! Quelle horreur! I would wear the fashionable hat on the left bien sûr but not the "underwear headband." Can you imagine showing up at an event with THAT on your head? I can just hear the snickers now....

Des Chapeaux: Rouge et Rose

Oh la la! A confession: J'adore bien les chapeaux! It is not quite the obsession I have with les chaussures but only because I do not wear one daily, bien sûr.

The vision of these beauties in Le Bon Marché were too much for my camera to resist and thankfully I managed to get a shot before being chastised. Did I purchase one? Malheureusement, non. A big hat presents a real challenge to carry home, and on another day I will share "that" story (and photo) with you!

Note: The link above only has the logo for Le Bon Marché so it may be in transition. However, this post on Peter's Paris has a wealth of information with photos. Merci, Peter!
