Square du Vert-Galant

Square du Vert-Galant

If you look at my banner photo you will see this square taken from Pont des Arts in summer.  This narrow piece of land on the western tip of Île de la Cité
looks much like the bow of a ship in the middle of the Seine
and is a beautiful, quiet retreat on this January day.

It was named for the dashing 16th century king of France,
Henry IV, known as the lusty gallant!

Ah, those lusty gallants!! But it is a gorgeous place regardless of which one of them it was named for! I could enjoy a lot of time there! Hope you have a great week, dear Genie!

Hugs

What a beautiful piece of land. I had been looking at your banner and wondered what it was, so now I know and old gallant gave his name to it.

It looks different with the leaves off of the trees. Serene in either season!

Beautiful photo, looks quite different without the leaves.

Thanks for this picture. Although I've been to Paris twice, I've only seen this from a distance.

A favorite spot of mine for picnics when I was a college student. Great shot, Genie. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

HA! I always wondered who the vert galant was. Thanks Genie! Now that I know, I think I could/should have figured it out myself.

I was going to say exactly the same as French Girl—only when I was picnicking here it wasn't nearly so well-manicured and you had to sit on the ground (not that we minded!). Thanks for inspiring good memories, Genie!

What a delightful park. Another place to put on my long list of "places to see" on my next trip to Paris. Thanks for giving us the orientation as it relates to your banner photo.

I didn't know the name, but I had a hunch that the tip of Ile de la Cite was the location. Nice perspective.

Genie,
I love how you always post the address on the bottom left corner. I imagine you with your camera and a gorgeous leather bound journal where you keep track of your photographs so we can find ourselves in the very same spot some day if we are so inclined. It's a wonderfully perfect detail.
