Stealth fashion photo

I am fairly brazen about taking photos but one never knows what shots will cause a fuss. You definitely have to be careful about taking photos of shoes in Galeries Lafayette as they will repremand you promptly. So, when I was in a boutique section of Printemps, I just snapped this for the pink and orange fabric (so me) and that amazing hand quilting on silk. Then I quickly do a sketch of the garment.

I will share more of this obsession another day. I think I got it from my mother (but it is a good thing, Mom)!

Absolutely gorgeous fabric, I can understand why you would want to take a photo, even by stealth- and it's a great photo. Galleries Lafayette went beserk when I took a photo of their glorious Chateau Y'Quem display, and wanted me to delete it. I did delete the photo they saw me take, luckily it was about the 4th one of the same thing! My husband is a photographer, and is a whizz at the stealth photo- he shoots from the hip without aiming.

Yes it is not always allowed to make photo's in public buildings. It is here the same, but I can agree. There is a lot of copy in fashion bussiness.

Such a gorgeous photo ~ it doesn't look at all as if it was taken surreptitiously. If I was attempting that, I'd end up photographing the ceiling. Blurred. I'll bet your sketches are lovely, too.

The french law says: if you picture something in a big shop ,like Galeries Lafayette, Printemps , Samaritaine..you must buy everything you pictured ( as "punishment")!
In small shops, you have to ask the owner's agreement.

Love the colors and the textrues.

My, my that's a tough law (re Malyss) -- if only they knew how much publicity they were receiving, perhaps they would welcome tourist photos.

The colors are vivid. I think I would like this too.

CRAZY fabrics! I too have been shamed for taking photos in stores and I don't really understand why they object. In a Rome McDonalds I have a photo of a worker literally flinging herself at me to prevent a photo.???????

...my trick so far has been giving the impression of asking permission and approval but trying to avoid negative answers as much as possible .:-)
after your experience I am tempted to have a try out at Lafayette in the near future;

There was a small shop next to our hotel in Frankfurt that was selling similar scarves. Robb bought a couple for his neice.

I'm very proud of you, Genie. It was SO worth risking the wrath of GL and/or le bras longue de la loi française for such a shot! And the fact that it was brazenly snuck makes it even more appealing.

Brazen? You? No! I still haven't decided when it is OK for me to shoot and when it isn't. I have been surprised to have store owners tell me "no pictures" when I was just carrying it and not even thinking about pix in their stores. (The little guy is much better for sneaking pix than the big DSLR.)

Richard -- Merci, mon ami

Bayside -- I usually do best when I have a "partner in crime" to keep an eye out!

beau gosse -- Glad that you approve... This rack was exquisite!

Louise -- Okay, you can join the "stealth club" for that photo shoot! I need a very small camera for the true stealth shots or lessons from your husband - hah!

biebkriebels -- Yes, I know but what temptation

Shell -- I learned how to sketch clothes when my girls were little and I could sew the copies for them

Malyss -- Very interesting! I'll try that in a patisserie and just eat it all!

Harriet -- Merci... I agree with you about the law

Halcyon -- Yes, the little scalloped dress was adorable!

Carol -- McDonalds? How crazy is that!

Jane -- Yes, and Marie and I have many, many stealth photos from our trip

José -- Merci for your visit and your poetry...

AA -- Merci, mon amie!

Suzanne -- Merci, and when the dresses are in the windows you can snap away without worry of the police!

Virginia -- Yes, we must each have a dozen scarves of those colors!

Jeanne -- So glad that you like these. I sketched a coat from the same boutique last year... adorable!

Loree -- So glad that you like these fabrics and I wish that I could have shown the whole garments!

Belgium -- Just be careful! If Malyss is right about the French law, we could get into real trouble.

Starman -- Well, if I see a scarf in any of these colors I would surely buy them...

Toñi -- Wonderful! I am off to see your blog as well... I hope that you will visit here often

Chieftess -- Ah, yes... But I would have to find the fabric first or something close to give the same effect. Merci!

I had a woman who yelled at me once for trying to take a picture of her crafts. She changed her tune when I told her that my blog is seen all over the world. I just told her I wasn't interested after that. Great colors in this photo.

So funny. I got the "pas de photo, madame" at the Baccarat museum but they were OK with it in the restaurant.
