Parc Montsouris - Les Enfants et le grand arbre

Parc Montsouris

The height of this sturdy limb
provides an adventurous but relatively safe climb

If you are going to Paris and want to see la vie quotidienne
in Paris, visit this park on a Sunday afternoon.

I eat enough vegetables and fruit to be a vegetarian but do eat
meat in moderation.  However, I can clear the table eating seafood.

Église de la Madeleine

Église de la Madeleine

There is much written about this very photogenic
and beautiful church which sits prominently in the 8ième.

Do you know that there are 52 of these Corinthian columns,
each 20 m high (65.5 feet!).  The fact that it was
designed as "a temple to the glory of Napoleon's army" may explain
the enormity of La Madeleine.  It is one of my favorites, and the
acoustics are amazing!

There are times when you cannot find an empty chair
on the edge of this fountain, but it is a perfect spot for reflection.

Pont de Sully

Pont de Sully

This is one of the few cast iron bridges
remaining in Paris today.  Built (rebuilt, actually) by
Haussmann in 1876, Pont de Sully is actually two bridges
connecting the eastern tip of Ile Saint Louis
with the banks of the 4th and 5th arrondissements.

La Tour d'Argent - les lumières

La Tour d'Argent

Although I have not dined at La Tour d'Argent
and would love to explore their wine list
one can enjoy the aesthetics of the wrought iron lamp posts
and the Guimard awning over the entrance door.

diptyque - parfumerie

diptyque

This is a charming shop on boulevard Saint-Germain
specializing in perfumes and also scents for
the home.  Even if you already have a favorite there
are scents which are not available elsewhere.

Plan a visit to the original diptype store.
This small shop is big on friendly customer service and
I have always been well-received on my visits.

Les vitrines de jouets - CDP Theme Day

Looking out of a store window at the winter
landscape, the tin toys resemble paper silhouettes
against a palette of neutrals.

Église de la Madeleine

Église de la Madeleine

La Madeleine assumes a prominent footprint
in the 8ième arrondissement.

Built in the Neo-Classical style its
fifty-two (52!) columns surround the building.
The interior is stunning and worth a visit.

La solution au casse-tête

So, here is the answer to the puzzling photo of yesterday.
The afternoon sun was shining on the frieze of
the building on the opposite site of the Cour Napoleon (Louvre) which is
the Pavilion Richelieu. The image of the
frieze is seen as a reflection off the interior back wall
  (yes, through the round opening).

It was a special moment.
