Basilique du Sacré Coeur

Sacre Coeur

In contrast to the Gothic churches of the Middle Ages like Notre-Dame (1163-1240),
the Romano-Byzantine style of Sacre Coeur is inspired by churches
such as Saint Sofia in Constantinople and San Marco in Venice.

The exterior travertine stone, known as ‘Château-Landon’,
comes from the Souppes-sur-Loing quarry in Seine et Marne
and is particular in that it is extremely hard with a fine grain
and exudes calcite on contact with rainwater,
 making it white.

That beautiful blue sky behind sure helps. :-)

Love your perspective on this one... that 'V' effect works for me.

I don't find its interior as breathtaking as its exterior -- but oh, that white dome against a sea of blue never fails to take my breath away.

It really pops with that sky.

It is cool to see just a bit of the building, not the classic view.
