La Basilique du Sacré Coeur de Montmartre

Sacré Coeur

This notable basilica made of travertine stone displays its white stamp on the Paris landscape.  This sacred landmark sits high on the butte of Montmartre overseeing all of Paris.

The photo was taken from my perch at the Temple of Sybil which sits on Buttes Chaumont.

bon dimanche

Hello Genie:

An extraordinary viewpoint. Such an amazing piece of architecture.

P.S. And now, from your reply on yesterday's post, we are even more certain that we should be on that aeroplane!!! However, some compensation as we are at a Baroque concert tonight.

What a great view! Reminds me of the view from the terrace on Musee d'Orsay but a different perspective. Very nice!

That is one spectacular pile of concrete. I wish the U.S. had architecture like this.

How interesting to see it not from the usual perspective. Bon dimanche, ma chère!

Every time I visit Paris I always walk up to Montmartre. I love Sacré-Cœur and the surrounding area with all its art centered neighborhoods. Very nice View of Butte Monmartre.

Thank you for the information that it is made of travertine stone. I always thought of travertine as being a tan color (the Getty in CA) but now you have enlightened me that there is a white version. What a beautiful use of the material! I always learn something from my dear Francophile friends. Merci.
