Hier et Aujourd'hui

Well, here it is... my favorite restaurant in Paris -- Hier et Aujourd'hui

It is out on the edges of the 17ième arrondissement but worth the trip! Pudlow Paris, a restaurant guide listed this restaurant as "Best Value for Money" in the 2007-2008 edition. It allowed that Franck Dervin was trained under Guy Savoy and Alain Dutournier and has a fresh, sharp and precise menu changing daily. Franck and his wife Karin Ouet handle every aspect of this dining experience... Hungry for Paris featured this as one of its 100 reviewed restaurants.

We have been making the trek out to our favorite restaurant to see our dear friends since 2007, and most trips we go for lunch and also for a dinner. If you go, please tell them that Genie sends greetings... Oh, and be sure to call ahead as reservations are necessary.

Tempting shot! You're good if you can choose a favorite restaurant in Paris....

Address noticed! It's always a good thing to know where to go..

You have to be willing to experiment to find a good restaurant. That's how I have found mine. In North America we are bombarded so much by the franchise restaurants. So Genie, what did have besides wine?

Great shots mom! Love the one of Franck in the kitchen. Oh just thinking back on all our fabulous meals there...I'm hungry - let's hop a plane and go now!

So near, because of the lovely pictures, yet so far, because of geography.

I'm hungry already!

Very tempting!
I must remember this when I next visit!

Franck and Karin look great! I love the shot of the menu -- I want to order every single item! Miam, miam -- I can almost taste the lapin we had in juin. Holly is right, let's hop on a plane, j'ai faim aussi!!!

Terrific shots, Genie, and good information about the restaurant. I hope I remember next time I am in Paris.

Ann -- They only have room for about 32 people and it is cozy!

Bibi -- Certainly I am not the Paris restaurant expert as I prefer small bites, the cafe experience, and bistros. This one has plats which rival/exceed anything I have eaten in France. For me it is the exquisite detail given to blending of flavors and textures with the freshest ingredients

Malyss -- You will not be disappointed

Andy -- Here is a for example: Crème chaude de mais avec fois gras et champignons (entrée); caisse de canard et poireaux au bouillon gingembre et herbes fraiches (plat) -- the menu changes daily, miam-miam

Holly -- Ready! Alons-y!

Miss Sadie -- It is difficult for me to photograph in this restaurant because there are rarely any tourists (except us) and it seems a trespass on the other diners. I usually take my photos before/after the others with permission of Franck and Karin

Nina -- I have added a "favorite" label to this post and will go back to my previous postings on places that I love whether places to eat, museums, parks, walking areas, etc. You should be able to find it that way!

Marie -- I am so glad that I was able to take you and V there last summer... a memorable meal with friends!

Léia -- Merci... hope to meet up with you and Cezar there!

Jack -- If you can follow a map it's a nice walk from the Métro... The Pudlow book gave another Métro stop and we walked in a steady rain for more than a mile, the full distance of Rue Saussure.

Let me grab my passport, I'm ready. What a great lunch that was and Franck and Karin were so delightful. I'm just sorry our time ran out before we could dine there again. Peter wanted to go along as well! Next visit!!!!

Louis la Vache said...

«Louis» would like to be able to fly to Paris avec Mme la Vache to visit this restaurant! (and do a considerable amount of touring in the process...)

I'm in! (Passport is w/me always—no driver's license.)
Wonderful shots, Genie; for sure a place worth heading toward the outer edge of Paris for! And, btw, how did you find it in the first place?

Halcyon said...

No more talking about food. I'm trying to stay on my diet. ;-)

Looks like a very cosy place. Just what I like.

Alexa said...

Oh, wait—you probably found it through the restaurant guide you mentioned. :~}

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Virginia -- We will go again and take Peter with us! However, he could go every day they are open because they are so close... le sigh

Louis -- You would enjoy it... just reading the menu is a treat!

Alexa -- I found the Pudlo book first, then read about it there... On our first trip we arrived for dejeuner (jet-lagged on our first day) to be told that they had no room for us. We found another very nice place (in the book) and called Karin to make our reservations for the next day... she became my instant friend for recognizing us and apologizing for turning us away.

Halcyon -- I understand... My philosophy is to indulge if it is "worth it" in terms of calories. Unfortunately, in Paris there are many things "worth it!"

I know! I'm ashamed! I have not yet bee there! So close makes it easy to say "I can do it whenever" ... and in the meantime ...! I really hope you will all be back soon, but I will anyhow make it before that, with family or friends ... and of course transmit the greetings from Genie! :-)

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Peter -- I was not scolding but you know that many of us are green with envy over your daily access to a city we love... Since you are more of an expert than I am of Paris restos, let me know what you think after you dine... Hope to see you again soon à Paris!

"out on the edges" is right. It's almost in Rouen.

Loree said...

Maybe I'll visit on my next trip to Paris ... whenever that may be.

Marie said...

Paris sera toujours Paris :-))) Très sympa, ce restaurant, je retiens l'adresse. By the way, do you understand French?

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Starman -- It's just a brisk walk from the Métro Wagram and the walk back makes you feel better about what you ate

Loree -- Lunch would be as wonderful as the dinner

Marie -- Oui, j'ai lu "le Diable au corps" et "L'Étranger" -- Certainement je compris les papotages de blogs mais c'est difficile de(?) repondre en français. I love to receive comments in French and will often reply in the same manner if I can do so without saying the equivalent of "done did." I also welcome and encourage corrections. I hope that you will come again, Marie!

James - it's a great place to go for a birthday - that's where we go for mine! Love it and am SO craving that soup with fois gras right now on this chilly day!

o2 -- What a nice thing to say... Merci!

Suzanne -- Merci!

James -- This is a fabulous place for a birthday celebration and quite affordable

Holly -- miam-miam!

We await Peter's verdict but I predict he will love it as we all have. Meanwhile , let's plan our group trip there. We might have to take over the whole place when we start gathering our blog, FB, and other Paris friends.:)

Genie -- Paris and Beyond said...

Virginia -- It's a plan! We may have to drop breadcrumbs to find our way back to the Métro... I have friends who are on their way to Africa, spending a few days in Paris... They will be with Karin and Franck this week... wish I was there also!
