Les fleurs de Paris

You may wonder about all of the shrubs and blooming plants in Paris.
The parks and public gardens are filled to the brim,
but one would think that there are not many private gardens
in central Paris.

All you have to do is to look to the balconies
and take a peek inside the almost-closed door courtyards.

Now what would you put on your Paris balcony?

Homme de musique - Rue Cler

Rue Cler

This charming man was a regular for many years,
but I do not recall having seen him in the past year or so.

He has a lovely voice and sings with animation and passion.
Have you seen him lately?

Les Floralies - Rue Cler

Les Floralies
Rue Cler

On this pedestrian street,
the local residents have a wide selection
of fresh produce, flowers, linens, chocolates, and a daily market.

The terrace cafes are a great place to watch pedestrians
and the street's activities.

La vie quotidienne - Rue Cler

Les marchés de Paris

It is impossible to read a novel (or non-fiction)
about life in Paris without observing the daily shopping.
I think about the time I spend driving to
the seafood market,
the family-owned vegetable market,
and the grocery for the other items.

How wonderful would it be to walk down this pedestrian street,
greeting your neighbors, while selecting all the items you need.

Rue Cler - les cafés

le serveur

Paris is a large city.
However, when you frequent a place like Rue Cler,
it seems smaller when you "run into" the same waiter on several trips.

Do not miss Rue Cler,
particularly for people watching from the terrace of its many cafés.

Rue Cler - un café et beaucoup de chaussures

A café on Rue Cler

This delightful café on Rue Cler is a scene repeated all over Paris.
I love to people-watch and wonder about their "stories."

Perhaps the shoes will give us some clues...

Rue Cler

A favorite street of mine as you can run into old friends and make new ones.  This pedestrian street is only a few blocks long, but it is a delightful neighborhood  and the decorations are appealing in the daylight as well as at night.

I am thinking about my friend Christiane who I first met here several years ago,
and who shared with me her treasured fèves anciennes.  We have kept up with each other over the years, and Holly and I saw her in Paris recently.

It makes me think of an old poem, "Make new friends and keep the old.
One is silver and the other gold."  I do treasure the friends I have made in Paris.

Rue Cler - les sapins de Noël

Les sapins de Noël

Most of the trees in Paris are quite petite compared to what one might see in the US.

If I lived there, I would want a small tree no taller than me,
perhaps one like the little one on the right.  The log stands are beyond charming.

Des lapins roses

A basket of bunnies seen in the window of Jeff de Bruges

They are not chocolate but adorable all the same.
There is no shortage of chocolate here!

Le chien de la rue Cler

The marché on rue Cler was full of people this day
and provided a great opportunity to explore the scents and sounds of the market.

Dimanche Matin - Rue Cler

As crowded as it is in this photo, it is likely noon or later. Rue Cler is a wonderful walking street for shopping, for un café, for brunch on a terrace, for people watching...

A little chocolate, my dear?

At A la Mère de Famille on Rue Cler, this large chocolate deer drew quite a crowd. Miam-miam!

Rue Cler -- an array of trees

Paris streets are full of les sapins de noël... in the street markets such as this one on Rue Cler, à la marché alimentaire, and in front of the many florist shops.

As we took a moment to look at these petite trees, some actually resembling a "Charlie Brown Christmas tree," we marveled at the "stands" made of half-logs drilled with a hole to fit the trunk of the tree.
This smaller version of a tree seems to work quite nicely for the Parisians selecting le sapin de noël for the family.

Marché rue Cler -- des legumes

Fresh fall vegetables on Rue Cler....

After a week (eating) in San Diego followed up with a week (eating) in New Orleans, I thought it would be better to go for the vegetables rather than the macarons. Okay, so I am stoic!

(but I'll be back on the pâtisseries et les macarons soon -- miam-miam!)

Rose foncé et orange

How do you feel about these two colors together?

Before you say too much I do have a coat in that color (well, two of them, but who's counting?)
