Oh, I love it! I'm ready to write a mystery story about this one! Great shot, mon amie, as always! And always a delightful way to end my day! Thank you for the fun and the beauty!
It is sometimes difficult to guess the use of a building in town but they make you wonder what is hiding behind and you start imagining a series of scenarii...Montmartre is full of little hidden secrets...
A cold wind whistled passed her as she approached the barred window framed with granite. Sunlight on the cracked timber hoarding beyond the bars enticed her forward. Was that a gap in the hoarding, a clue to who dwelled in this once lost space? Mon Dieu! A shadow passed across her gaze, floor boards creaked; she ran!
Wow that art texture in the wall is amazing! Good question Genie, you know most of houses in Brazil looks like that, unfortunately it's all about safe reasons. Great light in this picture, bravissimo! Léia
Intriguing title Genie and Joe's story was pretty good, what an imagination he has! This is definitely a very mysterious looking window, are the bars to keep someone in or 'something' out....Look now you've got me at it hahahaha!
Either way it's tempting to enter and check it out ... (as long as it is daylight)! You have stimulated our interest and pricked our imaginations today. Well done!
Apart from the spookiness, well actually in addition to it, the complex textures, the contrast of the lines from straight to undulating causing different rhythms, and your treatment of the light against the dark all make this little secret corner more than intriguing.
I would say it's a house but it does have a bit of a sinister air about it. Maybe it's haunted? Thanks for your sweet comments Genie. I appreciate them a lot.
Excellent photo! I'm not sure why but this looks very familiar to me. I guess I could have seen this wall when I was in Paris but it seems like it was even closer to now. Oh well. :)
Whether it is a bolted door or a shuttered window, I have a natural curiosity about what is beyond the portal. The masonry on this structure originally caught my attention. If someone had said "boo" I might have jumped!
tattina, how interesting and a true observation... sometimes a home can be a prison... so sad.
Joe, you should be my script writer... merci!
jb, surely you have me confused with someone else...
beau gosse, thanks for naming the "convex mortar joints" as I would have just said "honeycombs"
Merci for all the contributions and comments. I truly enjoy the added enjoyment of your thoughts on my posts and my photos. Bises.

Wonderful shot. x
Amazing, Genie! The convex mortar joints around the stones create a honeycomb or web-like pattern that is stunning! Great shot!!!! ^_^
Quite the intriguing shot, Genie. Who knows what's behind there?
On est toujours intrigué par ce type de lucarne... Que peut-il se cacher derrière?...

Ooooh, such mystery! The strange rustication of the wall adds a nicely gothic touch, Genie.
Brrr, I think you were brave to get close enough to take this, Genie!

Admit it - a senior moment - you forgot it...

Another great picture! This one has an Edgar Allan Poe feel (one of my favorite writers). I love the drama of it, you really are good behind a camera.
Love it. You and Joe should team up!
So many textures and wonderful light...
Your comments add so much to the intrigue of this photo. Great b&w.
Hmmm Well if you have to be held captive, let it be in Paris!

I'm assuming this was at ground level, in which case the bars are to keep out unwanted intruders.
WOW Genie, even the prisons in Paris are tres chic! I wonder how many people had the honor of spending the night in there? LOL

The word 'prison' came to mind before I even read the caption! Nice shot Genie!
Hmmm. Interesting question! :))

I plan to behave VERY well around here. This place is not for me. We can save the hijinks for other parts of town.
Interesting wall design.

A perfect shot in black and white!
Could be one and the same -- Wonderful texture and kighting. Again, the vignetting used to great effect!!
