a part of Le Bon Marché.

Wines, spices, foods from around the world, 

produce, carry-out, pastries, a restaurant, kitchen supplies,

and just about anything else you can think of relative to food.

Did I mention that there is a whole aisle

dedicated to butter!

and colorful.

Even in a steady rain

the wide awnings kept the 

families dry as the young children

squealed with delight.

The escalators here give a visual challenge

with an abstract sense of movement.

It is difficult enough to find the escLalator going up

in this grand magasin but am I upside down?

I wonder if he even notices what is happening on the street.

sits this vintage carousel.  

Alas, it was too early in the morning for little passengers, 

but by the afternoon it will be full.

Early in the morning, this little pocket of a park was empty

except for the gardener.

 

Paris is often late to rise,

 and you can have her almost to yourself

if you are an early bird.

Un chapeau et un .....?

Un chapeau et un .... je ne sais pas!

I was sneaking a photo of this stylish hat at Le Bon Marché as I had done before and in reviewing my daily collection of photographs, I wondered what exactly was that to the right of my focus. Is this another hat? Surely not -- it looks like wadded up underwear (albeit Parisian lingerie) that has been bunched up on a headband! Quelle horreur! I would wear the fashionable hat on the left bien sûr but not the "underwear headband." Can you imagine showing up at an event with THAT on your head? I can just hear the snickers now....

Lonely Carrousel -- Square Boucicaut

Waiting for the opening of Bon Marché we sat in Square Boucicaut, the garden honoring the memory of Aristide Boucicaut, le créateur du célèbre grand magasin du Bon Marché.

This day in June the garden is empty except for the gardener and the operator of this carrousel -- no riders, large or small.

Des Chapeaux: Rouge et Rose

Oh la la! A confession: J'adore bien les chapeaux! It is not quite the obsession I have with les chaussures but only because I do not wear one daily, bien sûr.

The vision of these beauties in Le Bon Marché were too much for my camera to resist and thankfully I managed to get a shot before being chastised. Did I purchase one? Malheureusement, non. A big hat presents a real challenge to carry home, and on another day I will share "that" story (and photo) with you!
