Cocktails ou Café?

Cocktails or Coffee?

The colored cups are not often seen in Paris,
but these are Cafés Richard.

I would choose Cafés Richard over Starbucks for certain,
and I do wish that I had some of these colorful cups for coffee and tea.

Un café et des cocktails

a colorful café

This terrasse on Rue de Turbigo, captured my attention first for the colorful café chairs, but the Cafés Richards cups were my favorite.  The mixture of colors and patterns remind me of the simple design and secondary colors of Fiestaware.  After the 2010 trip an artist friend, Carol Schiff, created this beautiful interpretation of the cups, a daily reminder of my Paris obsession.

Chaises de café en noir et rouge

Café chairs
in black and red

When I think about the café chairs in Paris, I can close my eyes and feel the weave of the seat as I settle in, the sounds they make as you shift your weight, and the warmth of the webbing on a cool day.

If you let your imagination run, you will hear the French conversations, the sounds of the Café Richards cups and saucers, and the smells of fresh croissant, pain au chocolat, and rich coffee.

When you cannot be in Paris, a creative mind can give you a few moments of memory and anticipation.

Le Saint Médard Café - Paris friend

After a delightful Sunday lunch in January, I encountered this friendly gentleman as he prepared deux express with the enviable Cafés Richard machine, gleaming of chrome.  After a brief exchange about visitors and Paris, he agreed to a photo, and I will be taking a print to him when I return, bien sûr!

So, now I long for a Cafés Richard expresso/cappuccino machine along with the CR cups.
I can taste that coffee still!

At any café in Paris

At any café in Paris, your coffee will likely be served in a Cafés Richard cup.
What is Cafés Richard you ask?
They are a company whose fresh roasted beans
are delivered daily to Paris' cafés and restaurants.

I have several Paris cups and Paris mugs,
but why have I never bought the cup so well-known to Parisians?
I will be doing so this week if I can buy a single cup or two.
This is called their Perle Noire Cappuccino Cup and Saucer.

Perhaps I need the expresso, the black Florio design, the Richard Coffee Cup and Saucer with the logo... My carry-on may be a bit heavy on my return to the US.
