Église Saint Paul Saint Louis

Église Saint Paul Saint Louis

Beautifully restored, it is a visual treat
to turn a corner and see this magnificent church
in the heart of the Marais

Constructed from 1627 to 1641,
it was due for another refreshing

Eglise Saint-Paul Saint-Louis

Eglise Saint-Paul Saint-Louis

Tucked in a corner of this beautiful and storied church sits this
confessional, obscured in semi-darkness.

The rays of light entering a church window illuminate
the corner confessional, revealing a warm patina.

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis

Église Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis

If you have not been to Paris recently
you might not recognize the magnificent Saint-Paul-Saint-Louis.
After more than a year of work,
the exterior has been brought back to a nearly new appearance.

I had only seen the doors in a very sombre, dark and indistinguishable color.
As you can see, the details of the newly-painted doors are displayed in bright red,
ah yes, Paris rouge.

Église Saint Paul Saint Louis

The renovations in this 400 year old church have brought light and freshness to the interior.
The lacquered red door is a new focal point on Rue Saint Antoine

Église Saint-Paul Saint-Louis - la porte rouge

The red door

The renovations at this nearly 400-year-old church
have made a remarkable difference in its presence on Rue Saint Antoine.
The former door was a deep gray-maroon
and lost in the dark pollution-stained surrounding structure.

The interior has likewise been restored and repaired.

Église Saint Paul Saint Louis -- Confessional

The sun shining radiantly through the church windows highlights the confessional in Saint Paul Saint Louis in the Marais. I previously showed you the organ pipes in this 17th century church here.

Église Saint Paul Saint Louis -- organ pipes

This 17th century church in the Marais has a beautiful interior with a dome that rises 180 feet (55 m.) above the crossings. If you visit be sure to note the Delacroix painting and the interior of the dome which is sky blue.

I love church organs and the creative woodwork in which the pipes are housed. You can almost hear the music.....
