Note de cendrier

Ashtray note

It is difficult to believe that the French have limited smoking to outdoors.
When I think of the French film there was always a sultry type with a cigarette.
The restaurants do not allow smoking except on their terraces
which makes it difficult to enjoy the open-air cafes.

I was amused by this little note written on the paneled courtyard wall,
imploring so politely that the smoker use the ashtray provided
and not throw the butts on the ground.

La Palette - le bar

La Palette

The rainy day refuge was a photographer's delight
as we enjoyed the classic French fare and a glass of bubbly.
The weather provided the drama.

Il pleuvait des cordes!

(It was raining cats and dogs - loosely translating here,
but I am sure that you know some other French expressions
for an abundance of rain)

Livres - Rue de Seine

2012 Oct 6 P1010947

Bookstores in Paris are full of treasures:

stacks and stacks of beautiful books, some to be read
and some just to be enjoyed.

This store is not much larger than you see right here,
filled to the ceiling.

Pâtisserie Gérard Mulot -- Miam-miam!

The pâtisseries of Paris provide a sugar feast for the eyes and Gérard Mulot in le 6ième arr. has a history of delicious offerings, both savory and sweet. The day in June when Marie and I walked past the pâtisserie on Rue de Seine, there was a line of anticipating customers that snaked out the door and around the corner.

According to Carol G at Paris Breakfasts, you stand in line to pick out your treat, you stand in another line to pay, and then you retrieve your pink box which will hopefully contain just what you selected and paid for! Miam-miam!
