Bibliothèque Nationale
Richelieu Library

This magnificent architecture is home to the reading
room at the Richelieu Library in Paris, a part of BnF
(Bibliothèque Nationale de France).

This oval room is quiet as it should be for reading...
No photos allowed!

Le Grand Colbert - une brasserie

Le Grand Colbert

In the beginning twilight of the dinner hours,
the creamy yellow walls are offset by a large vase of flowers.
The service is quite proper,
the plat fresh and perfectly prepared,
and the dessert sinfully chocolate*.
What a great evening with friends.

Galerie Vivienne - magasin d'antiquités

In my nearly two years of posting, I have featured many of the "galeries" of Paris.  Galerie Vivienne is one of the remaining seventeen or so 19th century covered passages in Paris.  It was built in 1823 of two mansions and covered as we might find in a modern-day shopping mall.  Today, this elegant reflection of times past boasts "fashion, culture, pampering, food."

This shop was closed (Lundi) but the view from the window features both the shop items as well as the magnificent mosaic tiles of G. Facchina.  You can see a direct view of Facchina's artistry in the passage here

Paris portrait

As you might guess this was not one of my covert shots...

He was standing outside an office door with a colleague and when he saw me photographing the details of the door he asked me to take his photo.

He did not have to ask twice, and yes, I will be taking a print to him on my next trip.

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

So what is this?

As we headed into Métro Bourse we found ourselves in the viewfinder of a movie crew.  We watched the action for ten minutes or so as the scene was replayed several times.  He was probably shouting, "Get those two women out of here!"  (in French bien sûr!)

For you movie buffs, let me know if this is anyone famous.

You never know what you will discover in the streets of Paris.

When pigs fly...

When pigs fly, as these surely plan to do, are they circumnavigating the globe?

I was not sure of the interpretation but found this window amusing.

Le Grand Colbert

I took this photo last December not knowing that Marie, our concierge (J), and I would enjoy a dinner here in April.  We sat adjacent to Alan Alda, his wife, and another couple, but left them to dine in peace.
However, I was humming the theme from Mash off and on.

Don't you think that this would be a great place to ring in the new year?

Allons-y!
