Marché aux Puces - Saint-Ouen VII

Les puces de Saint-Ouen
Marché Vernaison

The winding aisles of Marché Vernaison contain an abundance
of silver, furniture, old toys, keys, ceramics, linens, and much more.

It is reminiscent of flea markets of the past and is one of the
Antica, Biron, Cambo, Dauphine, Jules Vallès, Le Passage, Le Plateau,
L'Entrepôt, Malassis, Malik, Paul Bert, Serpette, Vernaison, l'Usine and Lécuyer

Check the link before you go and choose wisely
as you will not be able to see it all in one trip.

Marché d'Aligre - XVIII

Marché d'Aligre

The street markets of Paris are many, each with its own flavor.

You never know when you will find a porte-bonheur (lucky charm),
a  cherished memory that will long remind you of Paris.

Les puces de Saint-Ouen - Vernaison

Les marchés aux puces...

or simply Les Puces (the fleas!)

Marché Vernaison is one of the markets within Saint-Ouen with winding passages and many vendors where you can find anything from furniture to beads, textiles, paintings, antique toys, silver flatware.  It is enormous and you can easily lose your way and the time wandering from one stall to the next.

If you are a serious shopper looking for bargains, this may not be the best market for you.  It is said that the deeper you go into the market, past Marché Paul Bert, the better luck you may have.  Think of this as a forest and you must venture into the very deepest woods to discover the real treasures.

This is the largest antique market in the world receiving between 120,00 to 180,000 visitors each weekend.  Next week I will take you to le marché aux Puces de Vanves which is on the opposite side of Paris but equally exciting for the treasure hunter.

Marché aux Puces, St-Ouen V

Perhaps this delightful little treasure-trove should be called
Le Cavern d'Ali Baba*

This sweet friend, originally from Spain, has lived in Paris with her husband for over 30 years.  I have been to see her on almost every visit to Paris, but we may miss each other on this trip.
Surely, I do not have to explain that to you.

Saint-Ouen - Marché Biron II

The window shopping at Marché Biron is fabulous, but the prices are sometimes astonishing. Holly and I once met two American antique dealers who come every six month or so to fill a shipping box full for the trip across the Atlantic, headed to New England. We asked them if they spoke French and they laughed and said that they did not need to as they spoke, "Cash."

They were nice enough but it sent a shiver down my spine in their lack of interest in the magnificent language of this country from which they buy and then sell. What a loss for them. Tant pis.

Marché aux Puces, St-Ouen III

Abundant treasures can be found at the Paris flea markets (Marché aux Puces). Whether you are hunting for a specific item or just wandering on a Saturday morning, the markets are a great venue for people-watching.

Saint-Ouen - Marché Biron

A trip to Paris is never complete without a visit to Marché aux Puces at Saint-Ouen. I love the look of winter and it had just snowed that Saturday morning leaving the tree decorated with a dusting of white. The long allée of Marché Biron with its glass-front display rooms was nearly deserted... the shopkeepers inside, their little dogs peering out from the heated interiors.
