Marché d'Aligre

Marché d'Aligre

The street markets of Paris are many, each with its own flavor.

You never know when you will find a porte-bonheur (lucky charm),
a cherished memory that will long remind you of Paris.

Marché d'Aligre - XVI

Marché d'Aligre

This street market in the 12ème is always full of people no matter the weather.

The sounds of the market are lively with the inflections of many languages.  It is a symphony to the ears and the colors are a painting to the eyes.

Marché d'Aligre - le dimanche

In a busy, crowded market shoppers were buying everything from fish and seafood to fruits, nuts, and cheeses. Vegetables of bright colors were hawked competitively across the stalls.

One solitary man is buying flowers. I have more questions than answers.

Le Pompier

The Sunday street market at Marché d'Aligre had a special treat the day we visited. All of the posts along the street (everywhere in Paris) were decorated. Some were simple, others, quite artistic, and the one above just perfect.

The firemen (les pompiers) were selling calendars and probably had decorated this pole. I have some others to show you another day (have to figure out how to produce a collage first).

Marché d'Aligre -- Paris Market XI

There are many street markets in Paris but on my recent trip in December we discovered one of the livliest, Marché d'Aligre... With an abundance of produce designed to sell, there is much noise as the vendors hawk their goods, shouting in various languages about their quality all while slicing specimens of fruit with grand flourishes!

The colors were exquisite and the people-watching would have been worth buying a ticket. No billet necessary! I have many more photos to show in the weeks ahead.
