The crocheted tea cozy is an updated version 

of an old-fashioned favorite.

The windows just dazzle!

Galeries Lafayette - le dôme en violet

Galeries Lafayette

The iconic art nouveau glass dome is illuminated in purple this year as it celebrates the beginning of its 101st anniversary.  The theme is thankfully child-centered at Galeries Lafayette for Christmas 2013, and there are many animated windows to delight children and adults alike.  

As you walk into the rotunda area filled with counters of perfumes, the sheer size of the dome will take your breath away.  In certain department stores they frown on photos but this shot is replicated by every visitor to Galeries Lafayette apparently with the blessing of management.

Deux pies - Rue Crémieux - IV

Rue Crémieux is a short walking street of two-story houses facing each other.

The jewel tones of the houses give the street a fanciful appearance.

Many of the homes have tromp l'oeil as seen here and in the photos today. 

This maison violette with its two magpies may have a story to go along with the art.
Magpies are said to be very intelligent and also attracted to shiny objects,

like the jeweled ring. 

Is there a fable about magpies by Jean de La Fontaine?

Bois Violette -- Reflection

I am a color girl -- rouge, jaune, orange, vert, rose foncé, turquoise, violet

So, when I saw this façade of violet with vivid flowers, it called to me. The name of this belle boutique de fleurs has a name reminiscent of a famous perfume fragrance: Serge Lutens' Bois de Violette.


We'll visit great perfume houses of Paris another day.
