pots de chiminées - Chimney pots

Chimney pots

Chimney pots in abundance on this rooftop near Sacré Coeur
make a charming scene with turquoise-framed windows
jutting from the mansard roof.

Just imagine:  The view from these windows is Sacré Coeur,
the lawn, and a delightful carrousel.

Les toits de Paris

2012 Oct 6 Saturday_35DSC_8629

From the rooftop of Printemps
...the view is spectacular

Do you see the boxes on the roof of Palais Garnier?

bee hives!
Can you get me a ticket to that roof?
I would be ever so grateful...
I love the bees!

Les toits de Chartres

from the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres
On the ascent to the top of the Bell Tower

A variety of architecture, rooftops, and layout of the city
can be seen from our ascent at the half-way point to the top of the Bell Tower.
The steps were worn smooth and a tight spiral shared by those going up and those going down.  We only encountered a few in either direction.  It is a bit dizzying.

If I had shown this photo in black and white you would have missed the fields of rape seed (canola) in the far horizon.  As we made the quick trip on the train, the bright yellow provided blocks of color as we zipped along.

Le Printemps, Palais Garnier, et les toits de Paris

2012 Oct 6 Saturday_66DSC_8660

Taken from the rooftop of Printemps,
one can see the two towers of Printemps,
the magnificence of Palais Garnier,
and many familiar outlines of Paris buildings.

Oh, you will always see many cranes obliterating the skyline.

Combien de cheminées?

How many chimneys?

...too many to count!

La lessive

Is Monday "laundry day"?

Seen aux deuxième étage in a narrow street near Canal St. Martin,
this haphazard display of laundry was probably not arranged by the woman of the house.

I do love the rooftop chimneys of Paris.
