From Pont d'Archevêché one can monitor the activity along the Seine.  

Take a walk below the street levels, alongside the boats of the Seine.  

It is quiet with few tourists.

it is conveniently located just adjacent to Shakespeare & Co. 

Have a browse through the famous bookstore,

meet friends afterwards on the terrace at Le Petit Château...

Romanian Orthodox Church of the Holy Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael - II

The narrow Romanian Orthodox Church is almost invisible from the street

but the interior is rich with golds and royal blue. 

The altar sits like a bejeweled crown

dwarfed by the tall stained glass windows of the apse.

 

For a small space there is much detail to absorb.

Place Maubert

This fresh assortment of seafood is seen daily at the market in Place Maubert. You can buy your sardines here, wine at the store next door while greeting le petit chien, fromage at Fromage (bien sûr). On the corner you can buy vegetables of the season and just a block away you can buy the best baguettes in Paris, Baguette Monge, at Eric Kayser's boulangerie.

It may take you some time to make your purchases as you chat with the vendors... very friendly and helpful with recommendations... (repeat daily)

I love the ads and posters in Paris. This one is tame but I have seen some that are humorous and others that are outrageous.

Procession aux flambeaux -- 8 decembre

The churches of Paris gather for the Fête de l'Immaculée Conception every December 8th at Saint-Nicolas du Chardonnet. Each of the participating churches brings its banner to be carried by its members. After Mass the families and persons of all ages light the candles and sing while walking through the streets of the 5ième, traffic stopped.

I am not sure about the food here but the appearance from the street was charming and inviting... A facade of blue and a row of Velib.... Think they have un petit verre de vin?

Rainy Day in Paris

From a hotel room window frequented by my daughter and me, the street below bustles with neighborhood activity. The season and the weather do not seem to matter as daily life settles into its routine.


I love the French expression "metro, boulot, dodo" to express the weekday cycle of going to work, working, coming home, sleeping and then doing it all over again. Since it is French, I am surprised that there is no mention of divine baquettes, wine, et fromage.
