which was founded in 1826 as  Librairie Petit-Siroux.  

If you love books old and new, 

this is a charming spot to look at the titles and perhaps find a treasure.  

You can peruse the glassed display seen here or wander inside.

sketching the century-old architecture.  
The arches, the moldings, the skylights, 
and even the floor tiles are worthy of a sketch.

This charming boutique in Galerie Vivienne 

displays an exquisite collection of scarves and shawls 

in silk, challis, wool, and cashmere.  

This highly regarded, family-owned textile business dates back to 1875, 

and is still managed by the Wolff family.

The colors and designs are delicious,

and I understand that all the fabrics are limited editions.

Caves Legrand - Bar à vin

Caves Legrand

Accessed through Galeries Vivienne and from Rue de la Banque, this wine shop was operated by several generations of Legrands.  It was bought in 2000 by Gerard Sibourd-Baudry and Christian de Chateauvieux who renovated the place while keeping its quality wines orientation.  An inspired initiative was to add a wine bar section in the middle of the shop in 2001.  

Not only do they have good wines, but the ambiance is charming with an assortment of small plates to enjoy with your wine.  It is not exactly hidden, but is in a quiet corner of Galerie Vivienne.

window shop on a cold dreary day in Paris.  

Holly and I enjoyed the toy store with their wonderful selection of books.

After shopping you can always stop at A Priori Thé for a bit of tea.

Yes, most of my excursions in Paris involve a beverage and a pastry!

Galerie Vivienne - magasin d'antiquités

In my nearly two years of posting, I have featured many of the "galeries" of Paris.  Galerie Vivienne is one of the remaining seventeen or so 19th century covered passages in Paris.  It was built in 1823 of two mansions and covered as we might find in a modern-day shopping mall.  Today, this elegant reflection of times past boasts "fashion, culture, pampering, food."

This shop was closed (Lundi) but the view from the window features both the shop items as well as the magnificent mosaic tiles of G. Facchina.  You can see a direct view of Facchina's artistry in the passage here.

A Priori Thé -- Galerie Vivienne

In the center of the passage of Galerie Vivienne is this proper salon de thé

You can see one of the menus here in chalk, typical French script, on the easel blackboard 

I love the floor tiles, the ambiance and the fare

You can sit here on the "terrace" in the galerie itself or inside the restaurant.  Both settings are enchanting and you will feel transported back about a hundred years.

Nathalie Garçon - Galeries Vivienne

I am sure that you do not have to wonder how I selected this boutique for a photo...

Yes, it was initially the red walls...

and then the amazing hand-blown glass chandelier...

It was not until I got home that I discovered this delightful grand couturier, Nathalie Garçon, who created her own line in 1989 after making a name for herself with Cacharel.  Follow the link to see her website, to read more about her collaborations in many areas, and I think that you will love the music on her home page.... Deux vélos

In the elegant halls of Galerie Vivienne, this pair of bikes parked just around the corner of the old librarie (bookstore) founded in 1826.  The large flat baskets on the front of each of these bikes appear to be the perfect transport for stacks of books.

I would love to think that I could sport around Paris on one of these, but the challenge of taking photos and riding would likely be a bad combination.

Galerie Vivienne et le ciel

The gallery is lined with elegant fanlight windows and the rotunda is graced with nymphs and godesses. Looking up from the mosaic-tiled floors this is the rotunda framing a Paris blue sky.

Galerie Vivienne... Martine Rama

The Galerie Vivienne was originally named Galerie Marchoux when it opened in 1826. It was purchased by M. Marchoux along with Passage de Petits Pères. His intention was to create a covered passageway lined with shops, the future vision of present-day shopping malls.

This little art-framing gallery with its aproned artisan* is typical of the shops along this striking, up-scale passage. I have more photos for another day.

Virginia posted a beautiful scene from this passage on the very day Holly, Peter, and I were there. The tree we saw in December was the same as in her photo, a beautiful vivid red.
